A Message from Mr. Limpert’s Desk. Well, our first chance to participate in Mr. Limpert’s EDDP activity went very well.  We sure learned a lot from your particular role and part in your team’s topic that you described to us.  Those students who were ready with their work and part, did AWESOME! Those who were not prepared did not do as well as you could have.  We need to continue to strive for excellence each and everyday in science.  Thanks to those who were ready and prepared with their work and item and did great on explaining it to the class.  We will do this again so be ready! Thursday, we also learned what causes waves to form and we drew some waves and labeled the key parts of them.  Friday, will be a big wave day in class.   We also viewed Mr. Limpert’s EDDP presentation which was in the form of dance steps on Thursday.  We practiced them and should be ready for an evaluation of them today in class.  Remember, evaluate…To judge or to describe what;s good and bad about something.  Be ready for those 10 dance steps on currents and waves today at the start of class! It’s Dance time again in science, or what Mr. Limpert likes to call Aerobiscience.    Today, we will be creating the human wave to reinforce and show the main parts of a wave.  After our light’s off/brain’s on human wave, student lab teams will be responsible for discussing one main part of a wave in detail.  This includes a written description of the part, an illustration and a short skit/role-play or dance step to show what the part of the wave looks like and what it means.  Each student in the lab team will have a particular job and role to play to guarantee success and understanding of the content.   Student lab teams will present this and we will end the class with a rockin 80’s tune by Bon Jovi or a new hit single by Justin Bieber dealing with parts of a wave and a lonely ocean floor. Monday of next week brings us to our currents and types of waves mobiles.  Using a coat hanger and notecards of various sizes, students will construct a moving model of surface currents, deep currents, parts of a wave and the 5 types of waves.  For each notecard, students will have the title of the topic or term and on the back will have a brief definition of it followed by a colored and creative illustration of it on one side as well.  They can then add additional designs and info the structure of their mobile hanger.  Hopefully, we will see a lot a cool learning waving and flying in the air after Monday. Follow the rubric to make sure yours in on target!   After waves, we move on to currents and the Coriolis Effect during the middle of next week.  Tuesday, we have our Renaissance field trip to Stars and Strikes for 6th grade.  I hope to see you there and congratulations on continued academic excellence and super behavior.  I am looking forward to a great time.  It should be loads of fun!  We will be completing a record player demonstration of the Coriolis Effect on water and currents on Wednesday of next week.  Be ready to review the three factors that control surface currents and how surface currents are different from deep currents.     A lot of cool activities are continuing with these new topics including a Nike Investigation dealing with currents.  Thursday and Friday of next week we finish with tides and comparing a spring vs. a neap tide.  A number of cool visuals and labs will be utilized for this one, icnluding actually getting to construct and build each type of tide using a variety of different materials.    Be ready and be excited to learn!   Let’s have a fun day of learning today in science.  What an awesome team of scientists we have on 6-B!  The next  week’s  plan looks a little like this…..
Friday, 2/5-Parts of a wave activity and lab day/Friday Science Song Quiz
Monday, 2/8-Types of waves and currents mobile project work..
Tuesday, 2/9-Stars and Strikes Renaissance Field Trip/Review currents and waves
Wednesday, 2/10-Surface and Deep Currents/Coriolis Effect chart activity/Demos/Record Player/NIKE Investigation
Thursday, 2/11-Tides Intro-Spring vs. Neap
Friday, 2/12-Spring vs. Neap tide  lab activity day/Friday Science Song Quiz/Study Guide handed out
Monday, 2/15-No School!
Tuesday, 2/16-Spring vs. Neap Tide Lab Day! Review/Prepare for Hydrology Unit Test
Wednesday, 2/17-Unit Test all of Hydrology…Atmosphere Begins! Early Morning Study Session..Star Science Students!
