Star Science Students of the Week Winners:Who will be our First week Star Science Students of the Year 2010 on 6-B for the 4th Nine Weeks? Will it be you? I hope so…Mr. Limpert is looking for your positive participation, effective team work, hard work, effort, going above and beyond the call of duty, thinking outside the box, showing your creativity, using the countdown numbers correctly in class and being you. Well,6-B students became meteorologists for the day yesterday as we learned common weather symbols seen on TV and in a weather forecast and we learned how to look at data and plot an actual weather forecast on a weather map of the United States. Students mastered our learning of the common weather symbols and we got a super start on their rough draft weather maps and weather forecasts. I was impressed by the good use of classtime that each student displayed. We will check our results first thing today in class to see how your homework rough drafts look. Be ready for accurate mapping and accurate coloring to be used today on our final copies of our weather maps today. Thanks for a great day of Meteorology yesterday! Today, students will continue to have the opportunity to become real meteorologists for the day through our weather mapping, forecasting, and tracking lab. Learning those weather symbols from Thursday will sure come in handy for this. Mr. Limpert will provide the detailed weather conditions for around the U.S. and you will map them, draw them, and locate them on the map. Identification and correct labeling and color usage will be very important for this. A rough draft map and a final copy map will be completed to show mastery. The final copies will be for a LAB GRADE. They will be checked and graded on MONDAY, so be ready to excel on these BIG LAB GRADES. Mr. Limpertstein is ready to rap out the week with a little “Ice, Ice, Limpert” Vanilla Ice Style to the themes of weather and air. Be ready to sing the catchy chorus part. After this, on Monday, we close out weather with a chance to look at the different types of weather storms and severe weather types such as tornaodes, hurricanes, and thunderstorms. Students will compete against each other in a fact finding severe weather graphic organizer competition. Facts will be located around the 6-B area relating to their graphic organzier categories and students will find the fact and record it in the correct category on their chart for points. The goal is to find all accurate facts before time is up. Speed, recording, and accuracy are all very important. There is even a bonus section on weather myths about these storms as well. Good luck and good fact-finding! After storms and severe weather will come our Meteorology Post Test and then on to our final unit of the year….Astronomy! Yeah! Tuesday, we will discuss our severe weather fact-finding organizer results and review for the unit test on Wednesday. We will check and discuss our study guide and complete a practice test competition to see how we stand for the big test on Wednesday. You don’t want to miss this review day in class. It is very important, as is the early morning test review session on Wednesday morning at 8 A.M. We end our weather unit next Wednesday with our Unit Test over all of Meteorology. This will include a study guide sheet for homework that we will go over in class on Tuesday of next week as we review and prepare. The study guide will be given out in the days to come to get a head start on it before we go over the answers on it. Completion of the study guide is counted as a homework grade. Don’t forget to prepare and study for this as Unit Tests are BIG GRADES!!!! The Meteorology Unit Test will include all information we have covered on air pressure, the atmosphere, layers of the atmosphere, wind, heat transfer, breezes, local and global winds, severe storms, air masses, clouds, and weather fronts. Start getting your notes ready to prepare for this Big Test Next Wednesday! We move on to Astronomy and CRCT Prep after that starting on Thursday with the differences between the Heliocentric Theory and the Geocentric Theory. Which scientists came up with these and what did the theories state? Be ready to describe and draw for this. We will be utilizing key skills such as comparing and contrasting for this day. Friday will lead us into a competition day over the terms “equinox and solstice.” We will learn what causes the seasons of the year and why we have them. Be ready for a quick station and demo lab as well for this over the angle of incidence. Let’s have another great week of learning science on Team 6-B. What an awesome team of scientists we have on 6-B! The next week’s plan looks a little like this…..

***6-B Science Start-Up Chart Daily Question/Answer…Don’t forget the daily, new and recent question to write in your box on your chart and then to answer it. ***You are now required to write out the new question, the letter of the correct answer and the full answer in your boxes for the Pink start-up chart. Remember, you will have a 3 minute time period to complete the start-up question of the day before we will disucss it. If you miss a day or miss some questions, it is your responsibility to come to me, to check with one of your classmates, or to see me during homeroom to get the question you missed so you can complete it. Blank boxes are incorrect boxes when these charts are collected and checked! Writing the old question correct letter and the answer in your box is bonus! Well, our weather front, air masses, and cloud types CD’s turned out spectacular. Good, great, and outstanding work was done by nearly all teams. I so much enjoyed listening to your presentations of your CD’s and was completely entertained by the performances that were shared with the class yesterday. In class yesterday, we heard song performances live and in person, we saw skits, music videos on the big screen, funny songs, catchy songs, and thye were all related to science and your CD. Way to go 6-B. A super project indeed. Thanks for your team efforts, great use of classtime, and for putting together an educational and creative weather CD. Today and Friday of this week, students will have the opportunity to become real meteorologists for the day through our weather mapping, forecasting, and tracking lab. Learning those weather symbols will sure come in handy for this. After our weather front Cd’s, we move on to learning the basic symbols found on a weather map and we will use those symbols as well as our knowledge about fronts and pressure to map out certain weather conditions found in the U.S. Mr. Limpert will provide the detailed weather conditions for around the U.S. and you will map them, draw them, and locate them on the map. Identification and correct labeling and color usage will be very important for this. A rough draft map and a final copy map will be completed to show mastery. After this, we close out weather with a chance to look at the different types of weather storms and severe weather types such as tornaodes, hurricanes, and thunderstorms. Students will compete against each other in a fact finding severe weather graphic organizer competition. Facts will be located around the 6-B area relating to their graphic organzier categories and students will find the fact and record it in the correct category on their chart for points. The goal is to find all accurate facts before time is up. Speed, recording, and accuracy are all very important. There is even a bonus section on weather myths about these storms as well. Good luck and good fact-finding! Tuesday, we will discuss our severe weather fact-finding organizer results and review for the unit test on Wednesday. We will check and discuss our study guide and complete a practice test competition to see how we stand for the big test on Wednesday. You don’t want to miss this review day in class. It is very important, as is the early morning test review session on Wednesday morning at 8 A.M. We end our weather unit next Wednesday with our Unit Test over all of Meteorology. This will include a study guide sheet for homework that we will go over in class on Tuesday of next week as we review and prepare. The study guide will be given out in the days to come to get a head start on it before we go over the answers on it. Completion of the study guide is counted as a homework grade. Don’t forget to prepare and study for this as Unit Tests are BIG GRADES!!!! The Meteorology Unit Test will include all information we have covered on air pressure, the atmosphere, layers of the atmosphere, wind, heat transfer, breezes, local and global winds, severe storms, air masses, clouds, and weather fronts. Start getting your notes ready to prepare for this Big Test Next Wednesday! We move on to Astronomy and CRCT Prep after that starting on Thursday with the differences between the Heliocentric Theory and the Geocentric Theory. Which scientists came up with these and what did the theories state? Be ready to describe and draw for this. We will be utilizing key skills such as comparing and contrasting for this day. Friday will lead us into a competition day over the terms “equinox and solstice.” We will learn what causes the seasons of the year and why we have them. Be ready for a quick station and demo lab as well for this over the angle of incidence. Let’s have another great week of learning science on Team 6-B. After storms and severe weather will come our Meteorology Post Test and then on to our final unit of the year….Astronomy! Yeah! What an awesome team of scientists we have on 6-B! Well, we wrap up our 3 day weather CD project today which covered air masses, clouds, and fronts. These look so cool so far. I have been impressed by the creativity and designs of the front and back covers and the detail and accuracy of the inside booklet information and research. I can’t wait to see and hear the performances and presentations today in class. Today, we present for our final grade and turn in our final copy CD and rubric/checklist. Thanks for a fun project of science learning. It has been cool to see your ideas, hear your thinking, and see how your entire CD was put together from start to finish. I am expecting an active and entertaining day of science learning in class today. Yesterday in class, we used the entire class time to continue on our CD parts and to finish up the required items for the CD. Teams worked hard and effectively as all classtime was used wisely for the project. Team CD photos were taken and wall of fame certificates for the 3rd nine weeks were checked and rewarded. Well, Monday we got rolling with our Weather CD project. Students set-up their CD Case, began the written and illustrative parts for the inside cover, took turns on ideas for the front cover and creatively discussed weather related song titles for their back cover of the CD. All in all, it was a productive first day of the project. The first day is always one of the toughest days of a project as we have to find ways to get started and then once we jump into it, it is usually smooth sailing from there. Remember to use your in-class work time wisely as Tuesday will be the last in-class day we have, except for a short time on Wednesday for wrap up time prior to our presentations and performances. There is still lots to get done, so let’s keep our effective and positive team work going. Early morning work sessions are provided Today and Wednesday at 8 A.M. I hope to see your team there at these if you can! Also, yesterday in class was Wall of Fame 3rd Quarter Awards Day in Mr. Limpert’s Science Classes. Congratulations to 6-B Scientists who recieved this award. I hope you showed it to your parents and got it signed. I know they will be very proud of you just as I am. It was a super 3rd nine weeks.

Today and Wednesday(March 16th-17th), we continue one of our concluding projects for our topic of air masses, fronts, and clouds will be Weather Front CD’s. Students will create as a team a CD based on the four weather fronts, incorporating info on air masses and clouds as well into their CD. Students will be given a blank CD case and a blank CD and will create from scratch the inside booklet, the front and back covers, the real CD on the inside, and all other parts that are on a real CD and CD case. The more realistic, the better. Students will describe air masses, cloud types, weather fronts, the formation of each front, the movement of the front, the weather each fronts brings along with it, the weather that follows each front, and the symbols and correct colors for each front. Wednesday, we perform and present our Weather CD’s for the final grade. Also, student CD teams will be asked to perform a music video of one of the songs listed on the back of their CD for possible WOW points . Students can also add real songs to the inside CD that relate to the features of the 4 weather fronts. Those songs can even be played during their performance and presentation of the CD. Early morning practice and work sessions will be offered for this, as well as in class work days and out of class homework nights. This is a big, big, big test/project grade for the 4th nine weeks. I can’t wait to see our 6-B music groups for this. Parents are welcome and encouraged to come in and help out during our work sessions or even to come in and watch the performances of the CD’s and the songs. It’s gonna be a rockin’ fun time of learning science! As you can see, we are on to weather and weather forecasting! On Thursday and Friday of next week, students will have the opportunity to become real meteorologists for the day through our weather mapping, forecasting, and tracking lab. Learning those weather symbols will sure come in handy for this. After our weather front Cd’s, we move on to learning the basic symbols found on a weather map and we will use those symbols as well as our knowledge about fronts and pressure to map out certain weather conditions found in the U.S. Mr. Limpert will provide the detailed weather conditions for around the U.S. and you will map them, draw them, and locate them on the map. Identification and correct labeling and color usage will be very important for this. A rough draft map and a final copy map will be completed to show mastery. After this, we close out weather with a chance to look at the different types of weather storms and severe weather types such as tornaodes, hurricanes, and thunderstorms. Students will compete against each other in a fact finding severe weather graphic organizer competition. Facts will be located around the 6-B area relating to their graphic organzier categories and students will find the fact and record it in the correct category on their chart for points. The goal is to find all accurate facts before time is up. Speed, recording, and accuracy are all very important. There is even a bonus section on weather myths about these storms as well. Good luck and good fact-finding! We end our weather unit next Wednesday with our Unit Test over all of Meteorology. This will include a study guide sheet for homework that we will go over in class on Tuesday of next week as we review and prepare. The Meteorology Unit Test will include all information we have covered on air pressure, the atmosphere, layers of the atmosphere, wind, heat transfer, breezes, local and global winds, severe storms, air masses, clouds, and weather fronts. Start getting your notes ready to prepare for this Big Test Next Wednesday! We move on to Astronomy and CRCT Prep after that…Let’s have another great week of learning science on Team 6-B. After storms and severe weather will come our Meteorology Post Test and then on to our final unit of the year….Astronomy! Yeah! What an awesome team of scientists we have on 6-B! The next week’s plan looks a little like this…..

Well, Friday in science we competed in two review games which covered all of our material from weather this week. Students were challenged to see how much they have understood so far on topics such as clouds, humidity, weather instruments, fronts, and air masses. Results were good overall as our giant boardgame matched descriptions with topics and our mystery envelopes contained questions that students had to answer and draw using the dry-erase boards. I hope these games helped in your continued understanding of our meteorology content. Everybody cut Footloose at the end of our class with a singing of this 80’s music classic. More of this will be happening on future songs. Thanks for a positive and enthusiastic end to the week. ***Don’t forget to get a start on the big WEATHER CD PROJECT!!Review your rubric and pick a part to get started on. I expect to see work from this from each student on Monday. This is going to be one cool project. Be ready for our 1st in-class work day for this project on Monday! Choose your partners and your team wisely so the best work can be completed and the highest grade can be achieved. On Monday-Wednesday(March 15th-17th), we begin one of our concluding projects for our topic of air masses, fronts, and clouds will be Weather Front CD’s. Students will create as a team a CD based on the four weather fronts, incorporating info on air masses and clouds as well into their CD. Students will be given a blank CD case and a blank CD and will create from scratch the inside booklet, the front and back covers, the real CD on the inside, and all other parts that are on a real CD and CD case. The more realistic, the better. Students will describe the formation of each front, the movement of the front, the weather each fronts brings along with it, the weather that follows each front, and the symbols and correct colors for each front. Also, student CD teams will be asked to perform a music video of one of the songs listed on the back of their CD. Students can also add real songs to the inside CD that relate to the features of the 4 weather fronts. Those songs can even be played during their performance and presentation of the CD. Early morning practice and work sessions will be offered for this, as well as in class work days and out of class homework nights. This is a big, big, big test/project grade for the 4th nine weeks. I can’t wait to see our 6-B music groups for this. Parents are welcome and encouraged to come in and help out during our work sessions or even to come in and watch the performances of the CD’s and the songs. It’s gonna be a rockin’ fun time of learning science! As you can see, we are on to weather and weather forecasting! On Thursday and Friday of next week, students will have the opportunity to become real meteorologists for the day through our weather mapping, forecasting, and tracking lab. Learning those weather symbols will sure come in handy for this. After our weather front Cd’s, we move on to learning the basic symbols found on a weather map and we will use those symbols as well as our knowledge about fronts and pressure to map out certain weather conditions found in the U.S. Mr. Limpert will provide the detailed weather conditions for around the U.S. and you will map them, draw them, and locate them on the map. Identification and correct labeling and color usage will be very important for this. A rough draft map and a final copy map will be completed to show mastery. After this, we close out weather with a chance to look at the different types of weather storms and severe weather types such as tornaodes, hurricanes, and thunderstorms. Students will research each type on a graphic organizer outline and will present one of those types to the class to show and tell us their information and the accuracy of their information. If time permits, a hurricane board game will be used to wrap up our study on hurricanes and its weather and many features. Lots of cool weather stuff to come. Let’s have another great week of learning science on Team 6-B. After storms and severe weather will come our Meteorology Post Test and then on to our final unit of the year….Astronomy! Yeah! Well, yesterday in science we covered a lot of information in our week long lab packet. We looked at the different air masses and talked about how they bring changes in the weather when they move, meet, and interact. We covered terms such as maritime, tropical, polar, and continental and learned what weather they would bring if you encountered that air mass. We also described, discussed, and drew all 4 weather fronts and labeled their movement and learned how to recognize them by their symbols that are seen and used on a weather map. We also learned what weather each front brings with it and what the weather would be like after that front moves through the area. It was an information-packed day in science. All of this info will sure help you out on Monday’s 1st Big Project of the 4th nine weeks. Lab packets were collected at the end of class and counted as a DOUBLE LAB GRADE due to the amount of work accumulated in the week long packet. Most of you did super on this and on following along all week long. Thanks for staying on track and even working ahead. Today, we have two games and competitions set up for boys vs. girls as we close out the week. We will be reviewing all weather material from this week including humidity, weather instruments, clouds, air masses, and weather fronts. Our first game will focus on the mystery envelope as students will receive a question and must answer it through writing or picture form before time is up. Dry erase boards will be held up and points will be earned for accurate responses. Many mystery envelopes contain many questions so be ready to show what you have learned this week. Also, we will compete in the match game on Mr. Limpert’s giant boardgame in the room to show how well we have learned and understood the material from this week. Students will match descriptions to topics on the giant board game. The more correct matches, the more points your side will earn. Good luck and let’s close out the week in remarkable fashion!
