We had the party on Thursday….we begin Latin America when you return from break. You will also turn in your Europe/Russia textbooks for Latin America textbooks. Please have them cleaned out and ready to turn in. Have a super holiday break, make sure you get your rest and think about how you want to finish your 6th grade academic year.

Today you took the DH quiz, and then you took the chapter 4 quiz using your references. Also, after your quizzes you were to compose your journal entry, the topic, “what are your goals for the next half of the school year, what are you going to do differently?” Read the below link for more information. The journal is due tomorrow and must be half a page. The party is tomorrow and I know it will be an exciting day.

You have been through half a year in your first year of middle school. Now it’s time to reflect and think about the future. Please tell me what goals you are thinking about setting for the remainder of the school year. What are you going to do differently? How can you be more successful knowing what you know now? Really think about what you write please.

HOMEWORK- finish journal

We started right away with your task at hand. In groups of four, you were to design a review boardgame using the below link as a guide. You had all of class to complete this task. We postponed the DH 2 quiz and chapter quiz until tomorrow. We will try to play these games before the quiz to serve as a quick review. Most groups worked really well together to accomplish their mission. I saw some incredible designs on a variety of boards. I will let you know who has been promoted and who has not tomorrow. Bring all of your references to use on the quiz tomorrow. Thrashers game tonight…hope they’re ready.

After completing your warm up, DH 2 (your quiz is tomrrow), you and your partner listened to me explain your assignment. As an introduction to Germany, you watched several video clips about various topics, ranging from Agriculture to Insdustry and Transportation. While you watched the clips, you were to create a total of 20 fill in the blanks statements with the answers between you and your partner. Each statement with the answer is worth 5 points. The assignments will be turned in tomorrow. Remember your quiz over Great Britain, France, Sweden, and Italy is tomorrow so please bring the resources I mentioned in class. Also, your DH quiz is tomorrow.

HOMEROOM-DON’T FORGET TO BRING YOUR $3.00 AND YOUR CANDY TOMORROW

After your warm up, DH 2 (except for 1st), we proceeded with our activity today. You were divided into 5 groups, each representative of a country in chapter 4; United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Italy, and Germany. Your group was to create a poster that has information from your book, your notes, and your knowledge about your assigned country. The posters were to be creative, colorful, and informative. As a class competition, you voted on the best poster and each person in that country received a small prize for creating the best poster. Finish Italy organizer, add chapter 4 vocabulary to your notebook since those terms will be on the quiz, and we started the German packet today, with the map.

Make sure you have your Italy organizer finished and all your resources (summaries, outlines, or organizers). You will be allowed to use them on the quiz on Tuesday.

Homework-work on map (part of the German packet), packet is due on Tuesday, so if you don’t complete the map by Monday you have until Tuesday. You are also getting 2 more pages on Monday though.

Money due on Tuesday for the party.

After your DG quiz today, we proceeded to take notes on welfare. The key question you must be able to answer is "what is welfare?". We are trying to compare the welfare system of Sweden to that of the United States and discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of each. The notes are located below. You were to also start your organizer for the section on Italy and finish up your handouts, 4.1-4.4. There was no homework, the big chapter quiz will be on Tuesday. Make you bring $3.00 for the fiesta party next week tomorrow or Tuesday.

HOMEWORK-none

My homeroom is responsible for the candy part of the party, so if each student from my homeroom could bring in a bag of candy for the party that would be very helpful and festive.

After completing your warm up, DG 14, quiz tomorrow, you were to finish your "France" summaries, then outline Sweden or use an organizer for the section on Sweden. I also passed out the chapter handouts which will serve as a study guide, you were to work on these in class. They are not homework. We will discuss Sweden tomorrow and start Italy. Big chapter quiz on Tuesday of next week.

After your warm up, DG 14 (1-4), you shared your Great Britain summaries with your group and made notes if you needed. The purpose was to see what other students had and share the information. After sharing your Great Britain, you were to work together to summarize the section on France, which begins on p. 106, please skip the quotes though. If you all finish, you could work on your corporate relocations, which by the way are due on Thursday due to technical issues. So, if you need the group of people to relocate, they are now on the blog entry from yesterday. Sorry about that. There really is no homework unless you need to finish the relocations.

Meeting today at 3:00 pm in Ms. Crull’s room (6C) about the Fiesta Day on Dec. 21. Thank you parents for attending and supporting your students here at McClure.

HOMEWORK- finish up the relocations.

After you turned in your packet, we talked about your assignment, "Realistic Relocations". You are corporate relocators and you are responsible for relocating a group of people. First you must research the five countries and fill in your chart, using your textbook, the country profiles are very helpful. Then you must look at each person and their descriptions. Using the information in the chart to make country comparisons, you will try to match up the appropriate country to the appropriate person, and explain why you put them with that country. The rubric is attached, based on your explanations, you will be promoted, not promoted, or fired. The explanations are due Wednesday. Bring your summaries with you tomorrow.

After completing your warm up, DG 13, you were issued a packet that has handouts that deal with many aspects of Russia. It is your packet to write on and complete. The rubric is on the back and the due date is Monday December 11th. I went over the point value for each handout and answered many questions. I also went over your key questions: How would you describe the history of Russia? What would the economy be like if it could utilize its natural resources? Tomorrow, we’ll start chapter 4 and talk about Great Britain, Italy, Germany, and Sweden.

We are trying to plan a Mexican Culture Day on Dec. 21st (the unit we start when we get back from break) and we need help from parents. Please read the letter below and see if you can help us in any way. It should be very educational for students. Thank you.
