More presentations today, trying to finish those up and move ahead, with Latin America environmental issues. You turned in your 11 sentences from Lesson 9. We also had an awesome lesson presented to us by Mrs. Morris on Black History, in first period. Way to go Mrs. Morris!

Remember, periods 2, 3, and 4 will finish the 11 sentences from Lesson 9, must have words underlined to get credit and must have a reference to the Aztecs, Incas, Mayas, and Conquest in the sentences.

HOMEWORK- finish sentences

After giving a DH quiz to 1st and 4th (tomorrow 2nd and 3rd will take it), you were given some time to prepare your presentations. 1st period seemed a bit scattered, so, another was needed to get organized, tomorrow you will start your presentations. 1st period also had homework, due tomorrow, create a sentence using a Lesson 9 vocabulary word that relates to the Aztecs, Incas, Mayas, or European conquest. I went over this in class. The rest of the classes started presenting and some were awesome. I told each class to take notes from all the presentations because there will be a quiz after the last presentation. I encouraged a 4 column page using the above topic titles. I aslo gave out my email address to make sure there were no questions or situations with technology. Tomorrow we will continue presenting.

Thanks for all your hard work in the maclab. Most groups and individuals got a lot of work accomplished. If you need to fine tune your presentations over the weekend, please do. The powerpoint part has to be ready to go on Monday. The presentations start on Monday so please be ready. We will also take our DH 4 quiz on Monday and if you did not turn in the Journal entry from our natural resource activity, please do on Monday.

HOMEWORK- finish presentations, study for DH4

We worked on researching ancient civilizations of Latin America. You were given a storyboard to put any of your notes for the powerpoint, see link below. See yesterday’s blog for websites to find material. We have the Mayas, Incas, and Aztecs to learn about, so, be thorough with your material. All notes are due tomorrow by the end of class, and presentations start on Monday.  The rubric is on a previous entry.

Wow, what a long weekend! After being off Monday and Tuesday, students came back to school with tons of energy. We started off the class with a natural resource activity. You were in small groups as numbered countries that had a certain amount of certain resources, you  had to trade with other countries to produce the items on your list. It was exellent, all the trading for resources! You have to complete a journal entry which is below and due on Friday. This will tie in to our European conquest of Latin America, which we talk about tomorrow and next week. Below are some helpful links.

Wednesday is research day and Thursday/Friday we’ll be in the MacLab.

After your warm up, DH 4 (1-4), you were to listen to me explain how the program Inspiration will become your best friend. I showed you the Mayan civilization and you were to copy that slide as notes for that section. When you finished with that, you were to work on your compare/contrast and fill in the Aztec and Inca information. I also explained a little about your small group presentations, with much more tomorrow. I will be giving some more information about the project and going over it specifically tomorrow. The link below is an experiment. I don’t think you will be able to read the file, so I may have to convert it into a word document.

After taking your DG quiz, we briefly talked about the Mayans, I had some volunteers show us what a game of pok-a-tok looks like. You were to have read section 1 of chapter 2 and then answer the questions 1-6 on page 38. This is a homework grade and due at the end of class. I also shared with you a triple venn diagram that could be used to organize this chapter, you may also use a simple compare/contrast chart or table if you like. You will fill it in as we progress through chapter 2.

4th period, took the DG quiz, reviewed for the test, took the chapter 1 test, and worked on their Mayan math, which is due tomorrow.

HOMEWORK- NONE, 4TH period- finish math problems

Progress reports did go home today, and many grades have changed in the last few hours from entering today’s work. I have the chapter 1 test to enter in all classes, which I’m working on. Many students continue to let work from when they were absent be a problem. If a student is absent, he or she should schedule an appointment to come in early (quiz or test) one morning and make it up. I write the student name on my calendar and give a pass to the student for access to 6A. On progress reports, it might look like "0 makeup". 

After your warm up, DG 19 5-8 (quiz tomorrow), you reviewed for a few minutes and took the chapter 1 test. Then you had some math to complete, yes, that’s right, math, Mayan Math. Below is the assignment in case you didn’t finish it in class. It will be a classwork grade, 5 pts. for each problem created. You had to create 20 problems with answers. I explained in class about the specifics and answered any questions. 4th Period, your test is tomorrow, so, review the notes you took today and quiz information if needed.

PROGRESS REPORTS GO HOME TOMORROW, FYI- MANY STUDENTS NEED TO MAKE UP ABSENTEE WORK, WHICH WILL BE CHANGED WHEN THE WORK IS MADE UP.
