A little rainforest for you…country is due tomorrow

Today students were introduced to a mini rainforest unit, I talked about the importance of the rainforest and how unique it is, then, we watched a short video clip on the rainforest habitat which spoke of many unique animal species, and then we started watching a visual reinforcement called "Fern Gully". Students have 7 questions to answer as they watch, this is worth 21 points, classwork grade which is due after the completion of the video, tomorrow.

Download fern_gully_questions.ppt

The animal poem is due tomorrow, I went over it and stated that it must be 4 4-line stanzas and include 5 prepositional phrases, students were to get ideas from the short video clip that I showed in class. Below is a link that might be helpful. The poem is worth 10 points, homework grade. It must be done right. It does not have to rhyme.

Busy Day in 6a

Man with jackhammerToday students handed in their homework assignments from Friday, the gas bar graph with question. Then students were to work with their fellow countrymen on more country construction (DUE WEDNESDAY). Then we had some time to work on imovies, so, we went to the maclab for about 20-30 minutes per class to finalize everything and save.

I also handed out the peer assessment rubric (collaboration rubric) and told you to assess the folks you worked with during imovie time. I explained how to do this and expect these to be returned tomorrow, if not, those students who fail to turn one in will earn a zero.

HOMEWORK- complete your rubrics, any create a country business/work

Graph Today students worked on the individual parts of their create a country assignment. I posted each part on my board, so students may see what they are responsible for, I asked students to print a copy of their part yesterday, so some students showed up today fully prepared for his/her part.

Remember, students may have to do some of this outside of school for completion. This is due Wednesday but we will be covering some other content topics on Monday and Tuesday.

The monetary value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country’s borders in a specific time period, though GDP is usually calculated on an annual basis. It includes all of private and public consumption, government outlays, investments and exports less imports that occur within a defined territory.

GDP is commonly used as an indicator of the economic health of a country, as well as to gauge a country’s standard of living.

I went over the homework assignment in class. You are to create a bar graph using a minimum of 5 prices from local gas stations, then use that information to create your graph. Below is an example of what it might look like.  A link was provided so that you didn’t have to leave your house to do this.
