Today students exchanged their create a quiz questions and took each others quiz, then we did a quick hot potato review. Students also drew for their position in our "feudal society", which is our next topic. We had serfs, merchants, knights, lords, queens, peasants, and kings today. Students watched a short video clip on "Romulus and Remus" (in 1st period), then took the quiz.
Students also read a little fable when they were finished with the quiz, and were to interpret its moral. "Look before you leap" was the moral.

Today students got started quickly with content. Each student was to create a quiz on the Greek and Roman material, from the perspective of a teacher. So, I ask the students to imagine if he/she was the teacher and to create the quiz from this perspective. The task calls for 5 Matching type questions and 5 Short Answer questions for each civilization, so in all, 20 questions were to be created. The answers are to be recorded on the back of the paper. If each question is worth 5 points each, then the assignment is worth, 100 points. Due tomorrow.
I want each student to practice the COUNTRIES AND CAPITALS OF EUROPE each day for 10-15 minutes using sheppardsoftware.com. Students will see a map quiz very soon, beginning of next week , maybe Tuesday or Wednesday.

Olympic week starts today with opening ceremonies, check the schedule from Friday’s blog for times. Each class is shortened by about 10 minutes or so, with events happening each day.
WORKBOOKS were handed out in every class except 1st period. Don’t lose it! You only get one.
HOMEWORK- review notes about Greeks/Romans for quiz tomorrow (materials include notes taken in class, RSG, and your textbook) and finish your Create A Quiz assignment

Students had a few minutes to work on their flags (notecards) and learn the national anthem of Canada (check blog from yesterday). We sang in class, then proceeded to take the Greek contribution notes and then talked about Roman numerals. I went over how they work and had some students answer some on screen examples. There was homework assigned dealing with some math problems, check below.
Review your notes for your Greek/Roman Quiz on Tuesday (mind map, contributions, Roman numerals, Roman contributions are what you need to review)

Official Lyrics of O Canada!
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Today students reviewed information about the Greeks, then started the section on Rome. We went over the mind map for Rome, and you were asked to take these notes. After I went over the mind map and lectured on the importance of Rome, we watched a fiew minutes of video, "Rome: the Ultimate Empire." I asked you to study the notes, and review them.

Today students took the DH quiz, started/finished outline or mind map of Ancient Greece (to be finished at home if not in class); then we started discussing Rome and its accomplishments and RSG’s were issued, that stands for Reading Study Guide. I went over how this can be used as an incredible resource, highlight it as notes, vocabulary, etc.
Tomorrow, we will finish with Rome. Of course there will be a quiz over Greece and Rome. I would be looking in my RSG and review all notes.
HOMEWORK- finish outline/mind map

Today students finished DH 1, quiz tomorrow, then we scratched the surface of our Greek/Roman unit with some notes, a little outlining (in 2nd and 3rd period), and discussion. Tomorrow, we’ll hopefully finish up the notes and outlining, covering sections 2 and 3 of Chapter 10 from our textbook. I will post the powerpoint tomorrow with the notes, and an outline if we get finished with that.
