I also told students that there were many resources to review tonight for the test tomorrow, written notes, the book (read the chapter), the online test, the powerpoints (print and highlight), the review guide information, the RSG, and the flashcards (which should be below, look for a line).

We finished with some light reading of Section 2 World War II. If you did not pay attention or need to be an expert, read this at home over the weekend. If you want to get ahead, read section 3.

Today students copied the warm up questions: How did imperialism, nationalism, colonialism, and militarism contribute to World War I? How has Europe’s small landmass affected its history?, then, they took part in a little trench warfare simulation, with a reflection to follow. The topic was to tell me all about your trench experience, your emotions, what were thinking about, etc. Then students took part in the Reading War, reading section 2 in Orville Redenbacher fashion as I kept score. I also showed some classes some pictures from a veterans musuem and a video clip about World War I.
Download how_does_imperialism_colonialism_nationalismlead_to_wwi.ppt
I talked about the warm up questions and had students share their thoughts in class, so, that was the goal to understand that before they left today.
KEY Question for today: How were alliances important in World War I?
HOMEWORK- finish reflection (must be 1/2 a page)
REVIEW GUIDE INFORMATION:
Know the following- SECTION 1 AND 2: all vocabulary words, alliances of WWI and WWII (what were the countries on each side and what the sides were called), Treaty of Versailles, NATO, the Marshall Plan; SECTION 3: the Soviet Union- all vocabulary words, the Iron Curtain, communism, Joseph Stalin and his accomplishments, the Cold War, Warsaw Pact.

Today students (except for 1st period) took the DE 1 quiz, then worked on a variety of tasks within their countries. A folder had the tasks for each country which were to be completed by individuals, the President was to make sure that the tasks were done. The country was to work on this all together, solving individual challenges, then the group challenges. This assignment was to promote country unity in an effort to prepare for war. Also, alliances were made then documents signed. Get ready for tomorrow. I also took up p. 37 from the workbook.
