TEST TOMORROW!
Today students reviewed for the Map Skills/Five Themes Test. We did a little small group review, with a focus on map skills. Then a selected individual got to answer some review questions on the big screen, using the first link down below. Students also handed in the journal entry from Friday’s question. I was kind of disappointed as to how many students completed this assignment.
Please make sure you review the license plate notes, any of the warm up questions, and the links below to review for your test. I showed most classes this option.

Today students copied their warm-up Warm Up , then we had a pop quiz over the Five Themes of Geography, Five Themes of Geography Quiz, and after that the students could have completed the journal entry, which is due on Monday. The topic or prompt was, “Tell me/us how all of the five themes are involved in your life.” In other words, explain how are you connected to the five themes.
Remember, the Map Skills and Five Themes Test is on Tuesday, so we’ll review on Monday after I take up the journals.
Please practice using the flashcards in this blog entry from Aug. 21st, this is vocabulary you might see on the test: http://cobblearning.net/shausdorf/2009/08/21/five-themes/

Today students concentrated all of their efforts on thinking through some difficult questions using map skills. We focused our attention on hemispheres and oceans in the “The Missing Microchip” handout, then we changed the focus to using directions to find locations in Moose Gulch.
Tomorrow, we will finish the Moose Gulch and go over the other map skills handouts. Then, we’ll start landform features.
I showed each class the latitude/longitude game, finding Hannah, check Monday’s blog. Please practice for the test on Tuesday.

Today students took the DG 2 quiz, then played hot potato (to answer some map skills questions), then read and discussed the map skills topics from pp. 6-11 from the textbook. I appointed team captains to make sure the discussion was appropriate and on task, then when everyone in the group understood the topic, the team captain raised a hand to signify, understanding. Several groups were called upon to demonstrate this understanding, to make sure no time was wasted. Great job all around!
TEST ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK- over map skills and Five Themes content.
HOMEWORK- none, review any notes from five themes/map skills

Today students copied the rest of DG 2, quiz tomorrow, and handed in the Favorite Theme assignment, then we started with the Five Theme Comic Activity.
In groups of three, students analyzed 18 comic strips to see which of the five themes worked the best and why? There was some excellent discussion among groups, very impressive!

Most classes completed the activity and even started the reflection (writing piece, due tomorrow). All of the details are in the links below.
