WESTERN EUROPE MAP TEST MOVED TO FRIDAY
Sep 21 2009
Today was a very interesting day. Despite all the weather distractions, students were fairly focused on their mission to develop a skill and compare European country populations.
Using pages 264-268 (Data File), students were to compare the population of the 18 Western European countries, then display this information in a student created bar graph. I went over the directions and even had some examples on the whiteboard. HINT: find your range of your populations first, then figure out your increments. This assignment is due on Wednesday, even if we do not have school tomorrow.
HOMEWORK- work on the bar graph, practice Western European countries using sheppardsoftware and review your practice map/T-chart.
EXTRAS:
Congrats to Katie A. for being the first student to identify the flag of Albania from Friday’s blog entry!
Colleen, don’t forget about your awesome Iceland pictures and quick presentation for Wednesday!
Megan M. was the only student to attempt to solve all the extra questions about European countries from Friday’s blog. She handed me a printout with her answers, awesome Megan, way to go!!!

What country in Europe flies this flag? (first correct email wins)
After completing todays warm up questions, students handed in the scavenger hunt assignment from yesterday ( I read many of these in class and I was impressed with many students), then a Western Europe political practice map was given to each student.
The assignment was to create a T-chart or two column chart, with one column being a “Capital” column and the other being the “Country” column, then students filled in the appropriate capital and country for each number. Lastly, students were to color the countries so that they could distinguish them from each other. THE PRACTICE MAP IS LIKE YOUR REVIEW TOOL.
I also displayed all the websites from yesterday’s blog to each class. That way they could see how to practice and spend 20 minutes each night doing so.
HOMEWORK- finish and review the practice map; practice identifying political Europe using the website links.
