Getting Organized For Presentations

Today students had all class period to organize their presentations, like writing scripts, what person is covering what topic, formats, etc. I went over the basic presentation format and wrote it on the whiteboard. It went something like this:

  1. Introductions/Province
  2. Details (economy, history, geography, etc.)
  3. Summary
  4. Question/answer session

HOMEWORK- is to get everything ready for the presentations which start first thing Monday

Presentation Explanation; Rubrics Explained

As students continued to organize and finalize information about their provinces, I went over the rubrics that will be used to assess the assignments for this lesson. The oral presentation part begins on Monday. So students had today and tomorrow to get organized.

Brochure Day- Have Pride In Your Province

Today students were creative designing their provincial brochure, as well as completing the other tasks from Monday and Tuesday, which are on previous blog entries from this week. Here is the data table in both versions. Also, the link below is for the province profile so that students could complete the brochure. I typed in each province to find the profile through our cobb virtual library site, example “Manitoba”.

Wednesday –1. Using your province profile, create a brochure for your province, include: •5 bullets describing the Geography (inside) •5 bullets describing the Climate (outside) •10 bullets describing the Economy (inside) •10 bullets describing the History (inside) •5 bullets describing why your province is special (outside)

British ColumbiaWhich provincial flag is this?

Today students continued working on “Having Pride In Your Province” Tuesday’s tasks, which are below. There are also resources, like the data table below.

Tuesday –1. Create a detailed map of your province, include cities, landform features, and bodies of water.

–2. Generate a T-shirt design for your province, include, province name, your motto and flag on the front, real motto and a picture on the back. Choose a color that represents your province well.

–3. Create 5 math questions that involve your province, with answers.

EXTRA: This may not work for some computers, due to file type. This is experimental anyway.

Conference Week Begins; Have Pride In Your Province

Today students started the “Have Pride In Your Province” Lesson ,which will continue through the week, since we are on a shortened schedule. Please make sure you are keeping up with the “to-do” list each day, Friday is the due date for all work. Today you had information on your assigned province which was to help you generate ideas for the following:

•Monday: 

–1. Create Your Own Motto

–2. A fictional sports team, what sport?

–3. Create Your Own Province Song (don’t have to sing it, but WRITE IT).  Must be 4 4-line stanzas.

–4. Identify Your Neighbors

–5. Identify Your Size

Tuesday and Wednesday:  more “to-dos”

Friday: due

TEST DAY (Canada Map Test)

Today students took the Canada Map Test, then took a short quick quiz on map skills followed by a “Who Discovered America”.
Monday- the province research questions (from Wednesday) will be collected.

Review Day For Test Tomorrow

A Plus 2Today students focused on reviewing for the Canada Map Test tomorrow. We did a couple of small group competitions and then went over the correct answers. Please review your maps, practice with sheppardsoftware like you were asked to do for at least a week, and come ready to do well tomorrow. Political map practice review for blog

Tomorrow, the Province Research questions are due from our media center day and p. 11 in the workbook.
