Read Across America Workshops Begin!

If you would like to participate in Read Across America, the workshops will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch and after school (3:30 – 4:15 p.m.) in the Media Center during February. To be a part of this fun event you must first turn in your permission form that can be picked up in the Media Center and then attend at least 4 workshops to prepare. You must also get permission from your teachers to miss 1st and 2nd period on March 2, Read Across America day.

The spots fill up fast so make sure you turn in your permission form and then sign up early at one of the workshops!

March 2 is Dr. Seuss’ birthday, also known as Read Across America. To celebrate, students at Sprayberry visit 4 elementary schools where they read to students, pass out bookmarks, and lead the students in the Reader’s Pledge. Learn more about how you can be a part of Read Across America next Thursday and Friday, Jan. 21 and 22 during the first ten minutes of each lunch period in the Media Center. The next Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl practice will be 7:30 a.m. on Friday, December 11, in the media center. Remember–our competition is coming up on Saturday, January 9, so time is running out! Eek!

Barnes & Noble Book Fair

Please come support the library at the Barnes & Noble (50 Barrett Parkway, Marietta) book fair from Wednesday, December 9, until Friday, December 11! Tell the cashier you support SHS, and a percent of all items sold will benefit the library.

Special events:

Wednesday, 12/9: 5:30-7:00–A representative from www.GaCollege411.org will speak on ways to pay for college, such as scholarships, loans, and grants. Free!

Wednesday, 12/9: 7:00-8:30–A representative from the Princeton Review will speak about SAT test-taking tips and other strategies for acing the SAT. Free!

Friday, 12/11: 4:30-10:00–See various SHS students perform live! Acts include the step team, the Latino dance team, comedians, singers, poets, and others!

Friday, 12/11: 4:30-10:00–Receive free gift wrap on all items purchased in-store!

Poetry Club: Next meeting is Thursday, October 29, from 3:30-4:30 in the Media Center. We will elect officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Event Organizer). If you’re interested in running for office, stop by the media center by the 28th to put your name on the ballot.

Reading Bowl: Next meeting is Thursday, November 5, from 3:30-4:30 in the Media Center. We will elect officers. If you’re interested in running for office (Captain or Co-Captain), stop by the media center by the 4th to put your name on the ballot.
