Kay Says Hey!

Today we read Chapter 8 of Lupita Manana and discussed some of the imagery the author uses to describe the scenes.  I collected the "I would like to see ______ again" writing assignment.

Today we wrote postcards from the perspective of Lupita and Salvador.  Everyone worked very hard in the short amount of time we had!  Chapter 5 of your Book of Memories is due on Monday.  It can be in any format: letter, essay, poem, song, or any other creative way you can think of to express yourself.  Have a great weekend!

Today we worked on our narrative poems about the first years of school.  Hopefully you were able to finish your brainstorming and start on your poem.  Your poem is due on Tuesday, April 24th.

We walked through the steps of writing a poem today.  We brainstormed some ideas for the poem, and I shared a stanza of a poem I wrote about my first years of school.  Your poem is due next Tuesday, and we will be working on it in class on Friday. 

What is due on Friday?  Well, as we discussed in class today and I wrote about on Monday’s blog entry, your five paragraph essay "Suddenly, I Became me…" is due on Friday.  I’d like to thank the one student who regularly checks my blog!

I’m proud of your hard work on the CRCT; keep it up!  Check your learning:  What is the purpose of narrative poetry?

I hope you all did well on the reading portion of the CRCT!  I’m sure you all tried your best.  Be sure to turn in the final draft of your essay on Wednesday if you did not turn it in today.  The next writing assignment was originally due on Wednesday, but because of CRCT, I decided to push the due date to Friday.

Today our DGP led us into a discussion of lie vs. lay, and we learned the appropriate times to use the words.  We also finished up some CRCT practice questions. 

I returned your "Who am I?" essays with suggestions for revisions.  The final draft of this essay is due on Monday.

Check your learning by filling in the blanks:  When I come home from school, I ________ my books on the table and _________ down on the couch to watch TV.

Today we discussed how we can determine the purpose of a piece of writing.  We also worked diligently on grammar and completed some practice questions for the CRCT.

The next installment of your book of memories is due on Thursday.  I appreciate how many of you have been consistently working on these pieces; your writing reflects your focus and determination.  The letter that is due on Thursday should be written from the perspective of one of your family members, and the relative should be describing family life before you were born.  You have a lot of creative freedom with this assignment so I’m sure you will amaze me!

On Friday, we took our DGP quiz and worked on some CRCT practice questions.  The first chapter in your Book of Memories was due on Friday.  Be sure to keep up with the weekly writing assignments; they aren’t too difficult, and they are a good way of recording the important things in your life.  The next assignment is due April 12th.
