We began a small group project on paragraph organization today.  We will finish on Wednesday and present what we have learned to the class.  You don’t have any homework this weekend!

IMPACT

Today we took a quiz over the vocabulary words of Unit 1.  Afterwards, we worked on memory match cards for the words in unit 2.  We also worked on pages 31 and 32 of your vocabulary books.  If you were not able to finish those pages, you need to complete them for homework.

Today we focused on privacy rights.  We had some great discussion on how much privacy is enough and how much privacy famous people should be guaranteed.  We also learned some of the vocabulary that is essential to master in order to interact with this material.  Here is a list of the words and definitions that we went over in class. Please bring your vocab books to class on Thursday, and remember to study for your vocabulary quiz on Thursday (A) or Friday (B)!

Reading

We finished our review of nonfiction vocabulary.  Remember that we will have a quiz over the vocabulary on Wednesday.  It will look very similar to the last quiz you took. 

Don’t forget the adage: “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”  What famous American published this wise saying in his almanac?

Today we used our Georgia Studies books to practice our nonfiction vocabulary.  We also were able to learn a little about the organization of nonfiction texts.  Bring your Georgia Studies book to class again on Monday.  Here are the vocabulary words and definitions you need to know. Download nonfiction_vocabulary.doc  We will have quiz over these terms on Wednesday.

After finishing our presentations today, we focused on how communication impacts our performance.  We learned the importance of communication and collaboration through completing the Broken Squares activity.  I look forward to reading your reflections in your journals.  We also worked on our new vocabulary words!  The first three people to come to me tomorrow and tell me the vocabulary word that is located within this paragraph will receive a piece of candy!

Today we finished working on our nonfiction vocabulary.  All of you worked very diligently while searching for the definitions for the words.  Be prepared to discuss what you have been reading during SSR.  I’m excited to hear about all the things you’ve been reading – from eating worms to little hobbits.

Remember to bring your Georgia Studies textbook to class on Friday!

Today we took a synonym/antonym vocabulary pretest.  We will be finishing our articles in class tomorrow; you should have plenty of time to finish it in class, so you do not need to work on it at home.  Remember to bring your vocabulary books to class tomorrow.

Reading

We learned about the features of the Reader’s Handbook today, and we began working on the definitions of nonfiction vocabulary.  Remember to bring your reading book to class tomorrow.

We took a pre-test in Reading class today, and we discussed our reading histories.  Remember to bring your book for SSR on Monday. 

IMPACT – Good work on your interviews today!  I hope you were able to draw enough information out of your interviewees.  We will begin writing our articles on Tuesday, so you do not need to work on them for homework this weekend. 

Some of you may have only come to my blog to get the answer for the joke of the day!  Why did the pig go into the kitchen?  Because he felt like bacon!   hahaha!  get it?  oh, that’s a good one. 

We collaged our journals today with the pictures that you brought to class.  If for some reason you did not have your journal or pictures today, be sure to bring in your journal with attached pictures to class on Monday.  This will be counted as your first grade in the Journal category, so it is quite important. 

We will continue to work on our articles in class next Tuesday (A) and Wednesday (B), and your articles will be due at the end of that class. Remember to bring your Vocabulary Workshop book to class on Monday.
