IMPACT

Your vocabulary quizzes were returned today.  I am allowing you to make corrections in order to receive a higher grade.  On the back of your quiz you need to write out all the words that you missed and the complete definitions.  Under each word and definition you need to create a sentence properly using the vocabulary word.  You will receive half credit for each word completed (2.5 pts.).  If you earned a low grade on your quiz, I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.  Corrections are due on Monday. 

Please remember to review the vocabulary words in Units 1-3.  You will have a test over these words next Tuesday (A) or Wednesday (B).  This is the test that was originally planned for Monday.  You should also complete the crossword puzzle you received in class today.

Today we went took the SRI in the Read 180 classroom.  You found out what books would be the most appropriate for your current reading level.  The books you picked to read look very interesting, and I look forward to hearing about them.  We will not be doing Read 180 on Friday, so don’t forget to bring your SSR books to class.

IMPACT

Today we discussed the Iranian president’s presence in the United States this week.  We learned about some of his beliefs and the main issues between Iran and the United States.  We also learned how to pronounce his name!  Before our discussion, we took a quiz over Unit 3 vocabulary.  We are planning on having a vocabulary test over Units 1-3 next Monday. If you were not happy with the results of your previous vocab quizzes, you should spend some time reviewing the words every night.

Today we watched our commercials and evaluated them.  If your class was unable to finish watching all of the commercials, we will watch the rest during the next class.  Don’t forget about your Unit 3 Vocabulary quiz on Tuesday (A) or Wednesday (B)!  It will be the same format as the previous two quizzes.

Reading

We discussed chunking and practiced our fluency with "Hatchet".  We will be taking the SRI in the Read 180 Lab on Wednesday.

So many of you were incredibly industrious today!  The B day class finished editing their cyber bullying commercials.  If you were unable to finish the reflection in your journal, be sure to get the questions from me on Monday. Remember to review your Unit 3 vocabulary words because we will have a quiz on Wednesday!

Today we finished editing our commercials in the Mac Lab.  We will watch all of my IMPACT classes’ commercials on Monday.  Continue to study the vocabulary words in Unit 3; we will have a vocab quiz next Tuesday.  Great work on your commercials!  Thanks for working so diligently!

We spent today in the Mac Lab.  We imported our commercials into imovie and began editing them.  We will return to the Mac Lab on Thursday to finish editing.

Mondays are vocabulary days in IMPACT, so always remember to bring your vocab book.  Today we began to work on pages 38 and 39, and we will finish those tomorrow (A) and Wednesday (B) after editing our commercials.  We will be in the Mac Lab the next two days putting the finishing touches on our projects. 

Reading

All of you did very well during the "My Word" activity.  I was amazed by your quick thinking!  Last week we took a tour of the Read 180 lab, and this week we will begin working in the lab.  I’m looking forward to it! 

Here’s a tough one for you:  What famous American landmark is constantly moving backwards?

I enjoyed meeting all of the parents that came to the Open House last night!  Thank you so much for coming.

Today we began working in our new Visions books. We also presented our silent reading books to the class and explained the most interesting aspects of our books. You do not have any homework this weekend.

Today we continued to film our commercials.  I’m excited to see how your creativity and imagination comes out on film!  We also took the Unit 2 vocabulary quiz today.  If you were not able to finish page 41 in your vocabulary book, please finish this for homework.  Don’t forget to tell your parents about Open House tonight!
