Today we conducted our Immigration Debate. Both sides did a great job of presenting their arguments and debating the merits of the other side’s position. In the 1/2 A class, the Democrats were awarded the victory. In the 7/8A class, we debated until dismissal, and the Republicans were ultimately victorious! Great job everyone. It was so great to see you use all of the things you learned!

We began preparing for our immigration proposal debate today.
We divided into committees to hammer out our final proposals, and then we prepared our presentations for the debate on Thursday and Friday. I was thoroughly impressed with the way you discussed the issues and worked together to find solutions. I can’t wait for the debate!
Remember progress reports go home on Wednesday (B day) and Thursday (A day).
Have a great night!

Today we learned about how public policy is created and how we can influence public policy. We also discussed two immigration proposals that were voted on in the House and Senate in 2006. We also discussed the ramifications of Romney dropping out of the Republican race. If you were not able to finish "Complete the Sentence" on pages 101-102 of your vocabulary book, be sure to have it completed for Monday’s class.
Have a great weekend!

We looked at possible proposals to deal with illegal immigration. We worked in groups to create proposals that reflected our group’s perspective (employers, supporters, opponents, border patrol). Everyone did a great job synthesizing the material and presenting proposals that addressed the needs of their groups. Encourage your parents to vote tonight!
