7th Grade Social Studies

We took our map skills test today!  I was impressed by how well all of you learned the material.  We also worked on our visual representations of the 5 themes of geography and updated our notebooks.  We start studying the Middle East on Monday!

8th Grade Read 180

After independent reading, we worked in our groups to create our crests that represent our similarities and differences.  We learned how the Read 180 rotation works, and we were able to practice the routines.

Map2_2  7th Grade Social Studies – TEST TOMORROW

We took a quiz over the 5 themes of geography today.  We also reviewed the material for the test tomorrow. Be sure to study for your map skills test!!  Pages 4-13 and 35-40 of your Social Studies book will be most helpful in studying.

8th Grade Reading

After independent reading, we worked on our Reading folders.  We also began to define the informational text vocabulary.  No homework tonight!

7th Grade Social Studies

We continued working on the 5 themes today.  We learned how all of them work together and the importance of understanding them.  We will have a quiz tomorrow!  You will need to be able to list the 5 themes and explain them.  Here is a PowerPoint that may help you study.  Download 5_themes.ppt

8th Grade Read 180

Today we learned about some of the procedures of Read 180, and we received our folders.  Some of us were able to take the SRI, and the rest will take it during the next few class periods.

7th Grade Social Studies

Today we looked at different types of landforms and the importance of learning them.  We also began reviewing the 5 themes of geography.  The students will teach the themes of geography in groups tomorrow.  We will have a quiz on the 5 themes on Thursday and a test over map skills and the 5 themes on Friday.

8th Grade Reading

Today we took a pre-test on informational text vocabulary.  We found out how much we knew about words like "denotation" and "bibliography".  We will begin looking at informational texts on Thursday by studying aspects of the First Amendment.

Presentation_2 7th Grade Social Studies

We finished our Cartography project today, and we presented our maps to the class.  I was impressed with your work!  Remember to complete your "Using Longitude and Latitude" sheet for homework tonight.

It’s Friday!!!

7th Grade Social Studies
We spent the entire class period working on our cartography project.  I am so impressed with the maps you are creating!  Keep up the good work!  We will finish these in class and present them on Monday. 

8th Grade Reading
After independent reading, we discussed how we chose the movies we watched this summer.  We talked about how choosing a movie and choosing a book are alike and the importance of previewing both.  We took part in a "Book Preview Pass".  We looked at our friends’ independent reading books to practice previewing. If you haven’t turned in your syllabus, remember to bring it on Tuesday!

7th Grade Social StudiesGlobe1

We checked our Social Studies cover page and turned in our syllabi today.  We began working on our Cartographer project.  We will continue working on this project all day tomorrow.  If you did not have your cover page finished, make sure you show it to me tomorrow.  Remember to turn in your syllabus if you haven’t!

7th Grade Social Studies

We handed out textbooks today!  Most of the students received their books today, but a few will receive them tomorrow.  We also found out how much we know about the different types of maps(political, physical, thematic).  Our group cartography project will begin tomorrow.

Remember:  Your syllabus and cover page are due tomorrow.

WorldmapWe reviewed the Social Studies syllabus today, and we finished working on our cover pages.  Tomorrow we will begin a group map project.  It’s going to be great!

Updating notebooks

7th Grade Social Studies
Today we worked on updating our notebooks by adding out pictures to the front and creating a cover page for the year.  We also discussed the importance of learning about Social Studies.  We will begin studying different types of maps tomorrow.

8th Grade Reading
We began working on a group project designed to acquaint students with the standards in Reading class.   We will complete and present these projects on Wednesday.
