Bunce IslandAfter taking our executive branch quiz, we went to the media center to view the Bunce Island exhibit.  Many of you showed your great museum skills during our time in the exhibit!

Homework:  Bring in a court case (civil or criminal) to class on Monday.  It can be printed out, or you may write a summary of the case.  Remember to include the source for your information.

Test on Friday

text_and_driveToday we discussed some of the bills that were introduced in the General Assembly this session.  Will they ban texting while driving?  We also reviewed the material that will be on the legislative branch test on Friday.  You should review your chart, how a bill  becomes law, and the notes on the back of your chart.  Also, review Chapter 15 Section 2 of your textbook.  Here is the pdf version if you are unable to access the online textbook:  Chapter 15 Section 2

I’m still just a bill…

BillI love Schoolhouse Rock, don’t you?  We finished learning how a bill becomes a law, and we took a quiz over the material.  Many of your graphic organizers looked great!  I will collect your individual organizers on Friday.  We will finish the legislative branch and move on to the executive branch next class period.

The General Assembly

CapitolWe are currently learning about the legislative branch of government in Georgia.  The class is divided into the house of representatives and the senate.  The committee appointments will be announced next class, and the Assembly will have the opportunity to introduce bills.  Remember to review these questions you completed in class for the quiz on Friday!

1.  What is the purpose of the legislative branch of government?What is its official name?

2. What are the two bodies within the General Assembly? How many members are in each?

3. How long do the elected representatives serve?

4. What are the requirements to serve as a member of the house?

5. What are the requirements to serve as a member of the senate?

6. Who presides (rules) over the house? The senate?

7.What is the purpose of the committee system?What are the different types of committees?

Homework: Complete questions if not finished and review for the quiz on Friday.  Use pages 536-538 in your textbook (Chapter 15 Section 2 in the online textbook).
