We completed the causes of the Civil War today.  Remember to review the vocabulary words we covered in class:

secession:  separation from an alliance; a state separating from the union.

abolitionist:  a dedicated opponent to slavery

fugitive: a person fleeing justice

compromise:  the settlement of differences; an agreement

states’ rights:  the belief that states should have more power than the federal government

platform:  the beliefs of a group – usually a political group

tariff: a tax on imported goods

nullification:  a state declaring a federal law unconstitutional
