We continue to be having a banner year at McClure. We received notice this week that McClure received an achievement award from the state school superintendent recognizing us as one of the top ten schools in the state in regards to the number of students who exceeded on the 8th grade math portion of the CRCT. We are excited about this award and will continue to work diligently with our students.

A huge thanks to those parents who came for coffee and conversation with the principal. If you were not able to attend, I am attaching the notes from the topics discussed. I hope that you’ll take the time to review the information. Please feel free to e-mail me if you ever have questions or concerns. At the end of the notes are a list of upcoming events. I hope that you’ll review this information and join us as much as possible. You can downlaod the notes from coffee and conversation by clicking on the link below.

I know that Monday’s weather placed us all in unique and uncomfortable situations. I want to say thanks to the staff and parents who handled everything so wonderfully. We want to thank our parents for being responsive and patient as we worked to get your children home to you. The staff worked diligently to get students where they needed to be and provided a safe and pleasant environment for those students who had to spend time waiting. We will be reflecting in the next few days about improvements that will strenghthen our emergency procedures. If you have suggestions or comments along that line, please feel free to e-mail me.

Parents, if you have not already joined PTSA, I would encourage you to do so. We will be focusing this year on how we can improve the opportunities for parent involvement and meeting the needs of our parents. We are always open to suggestions! I hope that you’ll join us next week to volunteer or watch Olympic week activities. This is a great time for our students to put their best foot foward and build relationships with other students and staff. Also upcoming is “Coffee and Conversation” with the principal. Please join me from 8:30-9:30 AM on Thursday, October 8th for coffee and an open agenda to discuss any topics or answer any questions that you may have.

Students will soon be selecting their Renaissance shirt for this year and all students are encouraged to wear their shirts on Wednesday – you never know what will happen – but you must be wearing your shirt to take advantage of activities and prizes on those days.

I hope that all parents will join us for open house next week. Sixth grade parents are welcome to come on Tuesday, September 15th at 7:00 pm. Parents should report to their child’s homeroom to begin the program. Seventh and eighth grade parents are welcome on Thursday, September 17th. Again, parents should report to their child’s homeroom at 7:00 PM. Eighth grade parents will not travel to the connections classes, but connections teachers will be available from 6:30 – 7:00 to meet with you in their classrooms. I hope that you will join us.

If you ever have questions or concerns, please feel free to e-mail me. I’d love to hear from you. On October 8th at 9:00 AM, we’ll be having coffee and conversation with the principal. There is no agenda – just conversation on the topics that come up. I hope that you’ll mark your calendar and join me that morning.

We’ve had a great start to the school year! Our theme for this year is “It’s All About the Journey.” While we always have a goal or destination in mind, sometimes we learn more on the journey from our experiences and those we meet along the way. When you embark upon a journey, you may take a map or use road signs to find your destination. Our staff will be working with our students to provide them with the tools they need to enhance their journey. Sometimes on a journey we must overcome obstacles and have to persevere to overcome those obstacles.

I have been amazed this first couple of weeks at our students demonstrating how they can be encouraging to one another – we had eighth grade students working with our sixth graders to assist them in opening their locker. Our students are also showing their enthusiasm for learning, their excellence in all that they do and using their ingenuity to think outside the box when it comes to their learning.

If you ever need to reach me or want to ask a question, the best way to do that is through e-mail. I’ll also be posting some frequently asked questions and answers throughout the year on my the blog. Thanks for being a part of such a wonderful school!
