6th Grade:  What Step is the most dangerous step leading to drug abuse?

Today we discussed the 4 different steps that lead to drug abuse.  We also reviewed what the students learned while I was absent on Friday.  I discussed with the students through the use of a folding display the effects of marijuana on the body.  At the end of class the students learned what it means to be “naturally high”!  The students acted out their favorite ways to enjoy life and have fun without getting in trouble and hurting their body.  6-1-I will collect your notebooks tomorrow!  Drug education test coming up soon…more details to follow!

7th Grade:  How much information did you learn from the drug education scavenger hunt?

Today we did a Jeopardy Review Game that reviewed the information learned from the scavenger hunt.  If you were absent, you do not have any work to make up.

6th Grade:  How is vision related to your balance?

Today we discussed the One-Pagers that the students completed. We discussed the effects of alcohol on the body. 6-2 class will learn more about the effects of this drug tomorrow.   Reminder:  Notebooks will be collected next MONDAY!  Have your Table of Contents in order.

7th Grade:  How can a drug be disguised as candy?

Today the students began a scavenger hunt.  We will continue this assignment tomorrow.  After you finish the scavenger hunt we will further discuss your findings.

8th Grade:  Why do people risk their lives, career, job, etc. for drugs?

Today almost both classes finished the drug education presentations.  I am SO proud of your effort!  You had some very creative projects.  Great job on thinking outside the box when creating your refusal skills.  Well Done!  Reminder:  Notebooks will be collected next Tuesday!  Have your Table of Contents in order!  The drug education test will be next Tuesday!

6th Grade:  Why does alcohol cause a person to run through a stop sign?

Today the students continued working on their One-Pager.  6-1 class your One-Pager is due no later than tomorrow.  6-2 class we will finish your One-Pager in class tomorrow.

7th Grade: Why is it important for you to learn about drug education?

Today the students completed their manikin test.  Congratulations to those who became certified!!  I will post your names on the blog in the next few days.  Tomorrow the class will begin the drug education scavenger hunt.  No homework at this time.  All CPR worksheets need to be turned in at this time.

8th Grade:  How can eating breakfast impact your day at school?

Today the students continued with their presentations!  I am so proud of you!  We will continue with these tomorrow.  Keep up the great work!

6th Grade

Today the 6-1 class began learning about the effects of alcohol on the body.  The 6-2 class completed the Shrinking Straw Lab.  This lab demonstrates the effects that tobacco products have on the lungs and blood vessels.  Tomorrow we will continue with both classes working on the One-pager.  More details to come.

7th Grade:  Why do you need to avoid the 8th grade hallway when changing classes?

Today I reminded the class the importance of using the main hallway when changing classes.  Please follow the correct way so that 8th grade classes are not disturbed…Thank You!  Today the 7th grade classes took the American Red Cross CPR Test.  If you were absent please study your study guide so you can take the test tomorrow!  I will also be testing the students who would like to be CPR certified tomorrow as well (manikin/skills test).  Study your green sheet tonight and come to class ready to test!

8th Grade:  Work on Project!

Today the 8-1 class began presentations!  I am so excited to see your presentations…great start today!!!                           8-2 class-be ready to present tomorrow after the first 10 minutes of class.

6th Grade:  Is chewing tobacco safer than cigarette smoking?  Yes or No and Why?

Today we finished discussing the compare/contrast chart.  Next, the class will have a lab activity that illustrates how nicotine affects the lungs and the blood vessels.

7th Grade:  How can you help a person who is in shock?

Today the students finished practicing all of their CPR skills.  Well Done!!!!  The students also signed up for the voluntary CPR Certification Test.  Study your lime green sheet and you may test this Friday if you are ready (7-1 class only).  Reminder:  American Red Cross Test is on Monday!  Study your study guide!!

8th Grade:  Why do celebrities/athletes, etc. accomplish  a lot but lose a lot due to drug use?

Today the 8th graders worked on their drug education projects.  We will continue this next class.

6th Grade:  How is smokeless tobacco similar to chewing tobacco?

Today the class began watching the movie:  Smoking:  Truth or Dare.  Each  student received a compare/contrast chart.  We will discuss this chart in class on Wednesday as well as the rest of your notes.  6-1 and 6-2 classes-answer the question below and bring your answer to class:

If Kathy smokes 2 packs of cigarettes a day at $4.60 a pack, how much money will she have spent in one year?

If Jack uses 1 can of chewing tobacco a day at $2.30 a can, how much will he have spent in 3 months (30 days each month)?

7th Grade:  You should move a person only if…..

Today the class finished practicing CPR.  Next, we learned about conscious choking and correct hand placement for abdominal thrust.  We discussed common foods that poeple choke on and how to perform abdominal thrust to get a lodged object out of the airway.  Tomorrow the 7-2 class will finish their CPR skill and learn conscious choking.  Next, both classes will practice unconscious choking.  This will be the last skill.  The students will take the written test from the Red Cross next Monday.  I will give a study guide later in the week for this test.  Reminder:  Notebooks will be collected this week!  I will collect 7-1 notebooks on Wednesday and 7-2 notebooks on Thursday!  Check the Table of Contents and make sure you have all of your classwork complete!

8th Grade:  Why is “searching with google” not allowed during drug education research?

Today the 8-1 class began their drug education research in the PC Lab.  We will meet in the lab on Wednesday as well.  Bring any necessary materials for your project to class this week.

7th Grade:  What do you do if a person does not give consent for you to care for them?

Today the students practiced CPR, learned the warning signs of a heart attack, and the cardiac chain of survival. Reminder:  You only receive ONE lung.  Take good care of it and keep it in a safe place!

6th Grade:  How would you define the word “drug”?

Today the 6-1 clas began discussing drug education.  Such as the three general categories of drugs and the difference between drug use, misuse, and abuse.  The 6-2 class finished their self-esteem projects.  If you did not turn in your project today, then it needs to be finished for homework and turned in tomorrow!

7th Grade:  Review for test!

Today the students took the mental/emotional and social health test.  If you were absent please study the study guide so you can take the test tomorrow!   Tomorrow we will learn the skill of CPR.

8th Grade:  How much caffeine is too much?

Today I discussed with the students various caffeine amounts in different drinks and how large amounts of caffeine effect the body.  Next, we discussed methamphetamine while viewing a powerpoint that illustrated how meth changes a person’s physical appearance.  The students then chose a partner and a substance to research.  We will begin research on Monday.   Tomorrow we will be in the gym for the teacher vs. student volleyball game!!

6th Grade:  No EQ-Work on your project!

Today the students worked on their self-esteem projects.  These will be due tomorrow!  I can wait to see the final results.

7th Grade:  What does CPR stand for and how does it help a person?

Today we began the CPR unit. We watched a video titled “Deciding to Act”.  We then discussed the three steps to take in an emergency-Check, Call, and Care.  Next, we practiced how to “Check an Unconscious Person“.  The students demonstrated the 7 steps.  We will finish the rest of the demonstrations tomorrow after the Test!  Homework:  Study for your test tomorrow!  If you were absent, study the study guide for your test and I will teach you the CPR skill that you missed.

8th Grade:  How much caffeine is too much?

Today I taught an overview about various substances using a powerpoint presentation.  Next, the students will pair up with a partner and begin their own research.

6th Grade:  How can your self-talk turn into your actions?

Today the 6-1 class began working on their self-esteem arts and crafts project.  6-2 class will begin tomorrow.  We will finish this in class this week.

7th Grade:  What is the response a person has when facing a stress?

Today I gave a study guide for the Test on Thursday!  We will begin a new unit tomorrow which will be CPR. Today we practiced role plays while learning social skills in various situations.
