Classwork: Today you started class by taking the moon phases quiz. After that you read Ch. 21.5 , pp. 668-673, about comets, asteroids, and meteors. You should be able to answer the questions at the end of that section. You then began working on your “Small Bodies in the Solar System? trading cards. You’ll have tomorrow to complete this. If you need to get images off the internet, you may want to print out some good images tonight.

2 mile Fun Run/Walk

is excited to announce the 3^rd Annual McClure Trail Trot fun run/walk on Saturday April 25^th. We have planned an invigorating 2-mile fun run/walk on the beautiful McClure Nature trail.

2-Mile Fun Run at 8:30 am or a 400-Meter Dash at 9:15 am, then we finish with a Toddler Trot at 9:30 am.

The McClure Trail Trot Race application will be available at the school and on the McClure Middle School website http://www.cobbk12.org/schools/mcclure/ You can even register online at www.active.com – click on “Classic” Event Search.

Moon Phases lab

Classwork: Today you took a quiz first, and then you learned about moon phases by doing a lab about the phases. After that we re-examined the cause of seasons and eclipses.

Classwork: Today you completed the Scrabble Wars. Then we moved on to the study of eclipses. You used a desk lamp and several different shapes of objects to see how their shadow would look on the round sheet of white paper. Then we read your text about eclipses. Finally, we looked at eclipses on two or three websites. I'm including the websites for you to access if you want to read more. There are many extra sites to go to from the second site, but there are a few steps to get there. Once you open the site, scroll down to Earth Science, then scroll almost to the bottom of that page. You will find several sites that show video clips about eclipses. Here are the sites:

Contrast orbits, revolution, and rotation

Classwork: Today you started in science by taking a quiz. Most of you had a rough time with the quiz, so you need to look over Ch. 4 so you can be better prepared on Thursday when you'll have another quiz on roughly the same material. We discussed the definitions of orbit (the path one object in space follows around another object), revolution (the path the planets follow around the sun), and rotation (a planet's spinning on its axis). Then you played Scrabble Wars for the rest of class.

Warmup: None because of quiz

Homework: Continue to draw the shape of the moon you see. It may be better to look for the moon in the morning as you are coming to school. You may also go online to find what its shape is for the night before. Go to the weather.com site.

Galaxies

Classwork: Today in class you played a game of Scrabble War, a review race game. We reviewed scientific method, minerals, rocks, rock cycle, and plate tectonics. After that, we discussed the three major types of galaxies: spiral, elliptical, and irregular. You created a foldable about each type, including the description and an illustration of each.

Homework: 1)Try to find answers for Scrabble Wars (scientific method, minerals, rocks, rock cycle, and plate tectonics) 2) Finish foldable of galaxies–include illustration, description, and name. 3) Draw the shape of the moon as you see in tonight's sky–do this for the next two weeks

CRCT begins next Tuesday, April 21. You will be testing on each day of that week except Monday, and then you will finish testing on Monday, April 28. If you are absent during any part of the CRCT, you will be given time to make up the test portion when you are back at school.

Classwork: Today you had some time to be sure you knew about the astronomers we've been studying. Then we went to Mr. Limpert's room so his students could put on mini-skits about the astronomers. You had to see if you could figure out which astronomer was being acted out.
