Classwork:
- We checked Friday’s homework assignment
- We went through the problems you had questions about from the homework and whatever questions you had about the quiz
- You took the “Similar Figures and Corresponding Parts” quiz
- With the remaining time you worked on your Indirect Measurement workbook page. Indirect measurement is used to measure the heights of objects which aren’t easily measured like flagpoles, trees, buildings, etc. We can measure the lengths of the shadow of such an object and use another object of which we know the height and shadow length to set up a proportion. Remember height is compared to height and shadow is compared to shadow.
Homework:
- Thick workbook page 222
- Quiz Friday – Indirect Measurement & Scale Drawings
- Unit 6B Test – Wednesday, Feb. 17; it will address similar figures, corresponding parts of similar figures, indirect measurement, and scale drawings.

Classwork:
- We checked thin workbook page 57….today was a homework ticket day! I had the solutions on the board for you to compare your work to mine. If you had any incorrect I encouraged you to at least write down the proprtions so you could use the page as a study tool for Monday’s quiz.
- You finished working on the similarity questions in your groups, and you turned in your answers for a class activity grade. I only graded as far as you got, so if you didn’t get to the last one or two questions, you weren’t penalized. You might see some questions like those on Monday’s quiz.
- With whatever time you and your group had left you worked on the homework assignment.
Homework: IF YOU ARE TAKING THE UNIT 6A RETEST MONDAY MORNING, BE SURE TO BE IN THE THEATER AT 8:00. PLEASE ONLY COME IF YOU TOLD ME YOU WERE TAKING THE TEST BECAUSE I ONLY MADE COPIES FOR THOSE STUDENTS.
- Similar Figures worksheet (you do NOT have to do #8 because there is not enough information to solve the problem)
- Similar figures and corresponding parts quiz on Monday
- Unit 6B test – Wednesday, Feb. 17

Classwork:
- We discussed the importance of showing proportions and actually doing the multiplication and division on the similar figures problems. If there is no work shown, then you will get no credit….this is not something new, so please don’t use that as an excuse when you come to class. I can’t help you correct mistakes if I can’t see your work.
- I showed you all of the solutions on the smart board, and you were to copy down any answers/solutions you had incorrect. I cannot force you to write down the correct information, but it would be helpful to you if you had any incorrect to go back and look at how you could’ve solved the problems. I’ve attached the solutions for you if you need them for tonight’s homework Wednesday night’s homework solutions
- We worked in groups today on 9 similarity problems. Each person should have been working out each problem, but you were to compare and discuss within your group. We will continue working on the problems tomorrow after we check our homework.
Homework:
- Thin workbook – page 57 – Be sure to show all of your proportions, show your calculations, and use a separate sheet of paper
- Similarity quiz – Monday

Classwork:
- We reviewed last night’s homework….remember if you are given three sets of measurements, you can choose which corresponding sides you want to use in your proportions
- We learned how to find corresponding parts of similar figures without using a picture. You are welcome to draw a picture for yourself, but we did it today just using our symbols.
- We did the study guide side of worksheet 8-7 together to get you thinking a little…be sure to keep that sheet because you might be assigned the back side in the future
- If there was any time left you started your homework sheet. On page 132 (the side with 8 questions) be sure you are finding lengths for 3, 4, & 5 (I’m not worried about the estimating part….you can just do the actual). For page 133 (the multiple choice side), I have attached a page with some hints for you to use Similar Figures Wkst Help
Homework:
- Similar Figures Wkst – both sides
- Unit 6A retest Monday morning at 8:00 A.M. – let me know before you leave Friday if you are taking the re-test. I will be making the exact amount of copies Friday afternoon.

Classwork:
- You received your unit 6A test back and we went through the correct answers, and I solved any you had questions about…..if you are going to do the re-test Monday morning at 8:00 A.M., you better put forth some time studying your conversion factors and solving the problems. I encouraged you to take some notes and write down some examples, but many of you didn’t take advantage of viewing your mistakes.
- We started talking about Unit 6B: Similar Figures & Scale Factors – you took notes about similar and congruent figures and we went through a couple of examples so you could get through your homework tonight. Remember to label your corresponding sides of the shapes by using tick marks and remember to set up your proportion boxes.
Homework:
- Thick workbook – pages 216 & 217
- Unit 6A re-test – Monday, Feb. 8 at 8:00 A.M. – be in the theater

Mrs. V.
Classwork:
- Period 2 – you took the unit 6A test today
- Periods 1, 3, & 4 – You received your take-home quizzes back
- You practiced both customary and metric conversions in class by completing thin workbook pages 77 & 78 or by going through various quiz questions you had
- Common errors on the take-home quiz: (1) trying to do the work in your head….always show the work, (2) label the units on your proportions so you don’t set up one of the ratios upside down, (3) using the wrong conversion factors….study your conversion factors for the customary system and the metric system
Homework:
- Period 2 – NO HOMEWORK
- If you earned 80% or better on the take-home quiz – NO HOMEWORK
- If you earned less than 80% on the take-home quiz, then you are to complete the following problems from pages 303 and 309; PERIODS 1 & 4: EVENS ON PAGES 303 & 309; PERIOD 3 – ODDS ON PAGES 303 & 309.
- Check your homework answers using the following answer key Thick wkbk answers – pg 303 & 309
- Periods 1, 3, & 4: Unit 6A test Monday

Classwork:
- You turned in your take-home quizzes. I hope to have the grades in Pinnacle for you by tomorrow morning.
- You and your partner(s) finished your measurement stations and turned in your group’s answer sheet. The stations count as a class activity grade, and they were a good review for tomorrow’s test.
- I asked if you had any test questions….not many classes asked any questions, so I hope that means you’re ready!
- I told you I would put some conversion word problems on the blog, so if you need them, get them here
Conversion Word Problems
Homework: Study for tomorrow’s test (measuring with a ruler, converting customary and metric units, comparing two different units of measure, a few conversion word problems). If you want to use the online textbook for review, Chapter 9 – Lessons 1, 2, 3, & 4 would be good resources for you.

Classwork:
- I went to desk-to-desk and checked the homework assignments from last night while you and your group got started on your first measurement station
- You worked with your group to complete 5 or 6 of the measurement stations in class today, and we will finish the review tomorrow during class and will also check your answers. The stations will count as a class activity grade.
- After you finished the last station of the day, your group should have given me your answer sheets so I could hold on to them until tomorrow.
- You should have taken a take-home quiz…..different class periods had different problems to complete so make sure you are doing the correct problems. You may use your orange sheet if you need to, but I recommend trying the quiz without the orange sheet first because you will not be allowed to use the orange sheet on Friday’s test
Homework:
- Take home quiz: 1st & 3rd period – ODDS; 2nd & 4th period – EVENS
- Unit 6A test – Friday: be sure to know your conversion factors
