Warm-up:

Classwork:
Today you received a two-page packet which very simply explains sets, unions, intersections, and subsets. Remember, on the packet it stated "members" of a set, but we call them "elements". We then surveyed the class to see who liked pepperoni pizza and sausage pizza. We used the information to create two sets, a Venn Diagram showing the union and intersection of the two pizza toppings, and the empty set (no one liked just sausage…..all sausage lovers were also pepperoni lovers). Then we briefly discussed your homework.
Homework:
Like the pizza example in class, I want you to create 3 Venn Diagrams along with the sets denoted for each circle and then write a sentence or two about either the intersection or unions of the two topics. For instance movies……you may have a set A (movies you own)= {RV, Ice Age 2, Aqua Marine, Cars, The Shaggy Dog} and set B (movies your brother owns)= {Napolean Dynamite, Superman, The Shaggy Dog, The Incredibles}. Create a Venn Diagram showing the relationship between the two sets, then write a sentence about the intersection of the two……By looking at the Venn Diagram, you can see my brother and I both own The Shaggy Dog; this is known as the intersection of the movies I own and movies my brother owns, and it is the center region where the two sets overlap. The union of the movies my brother and I own are RV, Ice Age 2, Aqua Marine, Cars, The Shaggy Dog, The Incredibles, Superman, and Napolean Dynamite. You can see this by looking at the Venn Diagram and examing what is in either set or both sets. I hope that helps a little if you were confused!

Warm-up…..this is actually #8 for you guys, but it is labeled as #7 to download it in case you need it
Download warmup7.doc
Classwork:
- Collected signed student-parent-teacher contracts…..thanks to everyone who has returned the contracts to me
- Practiced intersections and unions by verbalizing the similarities/differences, drawing both using Venn Diagrams, and taking some notes from a PowerPoint……I have attached the PP presentation in case you wanted to review it at home
Download GoneWithTheVenn.ppt
Homework:
- We discussed the homework ( Download ClassifyingwithVenns.doc )….I told you to use logic in order to answer the questions. Think about the sets and examine the diagrams in order to figure out each statement
- If your contract has not been signed, I would like it back as soon as possible….Thanks

Classwork:
- You put your number of cups on a post-it & placed it in the appropriate column on the front board
- We took that data and created a stem-and-leaf plot by putting the data in order from least to greatest, then we listed each stem and the leaf/leaves that went with the stem. Remember, the stems won’t be repeated, & the only numbers you should have in your leaves column are the digits that were in the ones place of your data.
- We then practiced a stem-and-leaf using some last year’s rushing data from Julius Jones (Dallas Cowboys)…..you practiced using this one, and then we checked it together before you did your homework.
Homework:
Stem-and-Leaf worksheet…..one side was a study guide sheet for you in case you forgot how to complete the plots, and the other side was for you to complete

Warm-up:
Your warm-up consisted of reviewing your definitions for mean, median, mode, and range (you should have the definitions in your vocab. folder).
Classwork:
- Review mean, median, mode, and range
- As a class we practiced finding the measures of central tendency and range……then you practiced some problems on your own
- After the review, I gave you your quiz back from yesterday so you could make corrections/changes/completions, etc.
Homework:
None if you counted your cups last night…..if you did not do last night’s homework, then you have to count all of your cups/glasses tonight. Write your number down so you don’t forget it by tomorrow’s class.

Classwork:
- Your groups from last Friday had 10 minutes to get together to finish your group project…..you were to find the mean, median, mode, and range of someone’s name from your group. The top sheet should have been the name (mean, med., mode, and range) you all agreed upon, and all of your other sheets should have been stapled behind the cover sheet. This will count as a groupwork/daily grade.
- Quick review of the measures of central tendency
- Let’s Get Ready to Rumble quiz……you used the letters from the title of the song to find mean, median, mode, and range.
Homework:
Count all of the cups/glasses in the cabinets/cupboards at your house. Be sure to count glass, plastic, styrofoam, mugs, etc. We will use the data tomorrow in class so please come prepared.
