Spring Pictures

Parents….Students who had their spring pictures taken received their picture packets this morning. They can bring the pictures home for you to review, but either the pictures need to be returned or you must pay for the pictures. Inside the packet there is a sheet which tells you the cost of each page (you can buy 1 sheet…or multiple sheets… .and return the rest if you’d like) and a payment envelope is also included. Please help your child remember to either bring back the pictures or to bring in a payment.  Thank You :0)

Classwork:

  • Last night’s homework was collected (both "What’s My Solid?" and "Cross Section…."
  • You worked on completing the stapled packet which addressed rotating 2-d objects to create 3-d objects and cross sections (two of the four pages were notes)
  • The half sheet, "Similar Cross Sections," was the next activity you were to do. Both of these assignments are due tomorrow when you get to class
  • The last sheet was an extra credit opportunity….it was a worksheet to get you to try to visualize solid figures…..this will be due on Friday, March 2, 2007.

Homework:

  • Geometric Figures packet
  • Similar Cross Section activity
  • Extra credit is due Friday, March 2, 2007

  • If you had any extra time you should’ve started work on "Decorating for the Dance." We will work on this activity again tomorrow, so be sure you bring the sheet with you again tomorrow. This activity should not be completed tonight for homework.

Homework:

  • Surprise Birthday Party
  • Unit 6 test – Friday, March 9, 2007

  • You worked on completing two assignments, and you were allowed to use the solids with colored water to help you visualize the cross sections if you wanted

Homework:

  • Complete the two assignments
  • We’re planning on a test either Friday or Monday
  • If you are interested, a few of you asked the other day, I’ll be here at 8:00 A.M. tomorrow morning to help you review…..bring questions so I can help you with stuff you really don’t understand

Classwork:

  • We went over last night’s homework problem-by-problem, and you were told to write the correct solution on your assignment so you know how to correctly solve it when you go back over the sheet in preparation for next Friday’s test (we’re planning on March 9 for a test)
  • You took notes over inverse variation/inverse proportion….remember, to have an inverse variation the following items need to occur (1) as one value increases, the other value decreases (2) the graph will NOT be a straight line…it will be a curved line (3) the graph will not go through the origin or point (0,0).
  • Also remember, the general equations for inverse variations is xy = k    or     y = k/x

Homework:

  • You received a half sheet (very similar to last night’s homework) with practice inverse variation problems. We completed 4 of the problems together in class (that was 1 problem from each section)
  • We’re planning on the Unit 6 test to be given next Friday, March 9

2/26: Math 7/8 – Cross Sections

No Warm-up today

Classwork:

  • We reviewed the 3-d shapes and their names
  • We played around with a couple of websites to help us visualize what the cross sections could look like when cutting various geometric solids….if you want to play around with a few, I’ll insert the links for you to click on in the next few bullets
  • "Cutting the Cube"
  • "Moving the Shapes"     On this site, you’ll have to type the words Cross Section in the search box, then click search. Then click on "Geometry 6-8" to bring up the page you can move the shapes around and view the different cross sections.
  • You were given some time to work on the visualization homework sheet

Warm-up:

Warm-up #8

  1. The variables x and y vary directly. When x = 4, y = 24. Which equation correctly relates x and y?

    1. x = 4y
    2. y = 4x
    3. x = 6y
    4. y = 6x

    1. y = 8x
    2. x = 0.8y
    3. y = 0.8x
    4. x = 8y

Classwork:

2/23: Math 7 – Direct Variation

No warm-up today!

Classwork:

  • We reviewed direct variation/direct proportion (the terms mean the same thing), and you took a few brief notes such as y = kx and y/x = k; the graph of a direct variation will be a straight line through the origin, the x value is the independent variable, the y value is the dependent variable, and the k value is constant.
  • Remember, direct proportions/direct variations occur when the y value value increases as the x value increases or the y value decreases as the x value decreases.
  • You had 30 minutes in class to work on the payroll activity

Homework: Finish the payroll activity….I’ve attached it below in case you need to finish!
