Here are two Power Point presentations to help you with direct and inverse variations……your won’t be next week, but the week after, so be sure you understand the difference between the two types of proportions by looking at a table, a graph, and an equation.

2/29: CRCT & Skills Tutor Practice

Classwork:

  • I collected the first half of "Decorating for the Dance." I will grade them over the weekend, and remember it is a classwork grade because we went through majority of it together in class yesterday. We will work on the second half on Monday :o )
  • We went to the PC lab and worked on Skills Tutor lessons to help us review for the CRCT. Today we addressed absolute value, addition & subtraction of integers, and multiplication & division of integers.
  • Remember, you can access Skills Tutor at home and use your same username and password. The website is http://www.myskillstutor.com

2/28: Decorating for the Dance

Classwork:

  • We went over "Surprise Birthday Party" together and answered all of the questions……you should have written in the correct answers so you have the sheet to review from when test time rolls around.
  • We went over the first half of "Decorating for the Dance"……you should have been working on #1 – #11.

Homework: You should complete 1 -11 on "Decorating for the Dance". Please do NOT do 12 – 20…….we are going to work on those in class tomorrow. If you finish 12 – 20 early, you will get additional work, so please don’t work on those problems tonight!

Tuesday, Feb. 26: Direct & Inverse Variation

I have a sub Tuesday, but this is what you should be doing tomorrow…..

Classwork:

  • Complete the "Direct Variation" half sheet…..I had four of the problems worked on the board for you to use as a guideline (one problem from each section).
  • Complete the "Inverse Variation" half sheet…..use the same examples from the board, but be sure to use the inverse variation equations, and not the direct variation equations.
  • You also received the "Surprise Birthday Party" sheet. This sheet does not need to be done when you come to class on Wednesday, but we are going to continue working on it, so be sure you bring it with you to class.

Homework:

  1. Direct Variation half sheet (n a separate sheet of paper)
  2. Inverse Variation half sheet (you may use the back of the Direct Variation paper or a new sheet)
  3. Do NOT finish the "Surprise Birthday Party" for homework

2/25: Inverse Variation Notes

Classwork:

  • You received your unit 5 tests back (if you didn’t already have them from last Friday), and we went over any you questioned
  • You received "Calculating Payroll" back and we went through the 7 questions on there to make sure you had a good understanding of direct variation
  • You took "Inverse Variation" (remember, "indirect proportion" means the same as "inverse variation") notes on the back of your graphic organizer…..this is your unit 6 study guide, so please don’t misplace it before the unit test.

Homework: NONE :o )

2/21: Calculating Payroll

Classwork:

  • You either turned in your unit 5 test with corrections or you received a pass for tomorrow’s re-take session
  • We reviewed direct variation and how the graphs look, what happens with the variables, what the constant does in each problem, and what the equations look like for a direct variation
  • We went through numerous parts of "Calculating Payroll" together, but you were expected to continue through the end on your own. A few people finished in class, but the rest of you are expected to finish for homework. Remember when you are graphing, you must go up by equal increments on the x and y axes.

Homework:

  1. If you are coming for the re-take tomorrow morning, be here at 8:00 A.M. and feel free to bring your breakfast or a drink with you.
  2. Finish "Calculating Payroll"…..remember, it is a classwork grade
