Least Common Multiple Practice

Classwork:

  • We went through yesterday’s quiz to make sure everyone knew how to solve the problems the correct way. You should receive your quizzes back tomorrow, but you did get to see the grade today, and everyone should now know their weak area in Unit 2…..be sure to study the concepts you missed on the quiz before Tuesday’s test
  • We went through numerous examples of LCM on the board, and most of you seem very comfortable with the idea of multiples. Please remember to show your work, because sometimes what you think is the least (or first) multiple that two or three numbers have in common is actually not the answer, and there is a multiple that comes before your original thought…..so show your work!
  • You had a lot of homework time today with 15 – 20 minutes, so be sure if you have extra time tonight to go back and refresh yourself on prime factorization, GCF, or whatever other concept is your weak spot in Unit 2 (see the previous blogs for power points which have additional help).

Homework:

  1. Thick workbook – page 125
  2. Unit  2 Test – Tuesday, Sept. 30
  3. Warm-up Quiz – Friday (it’s nothing you can study for, but be sure you have all ten warm-ups with you for the quiz)

More GCF Practice

Classwork:

  • We reviewed some of you homework problems
  • We discussed another way to find the Greatest Common Factor (GCF)of two or more numbers….the double or triple ladder! See the online book or the previous blog posting’s power point for help if you need it…..many of you said it was easier than what we did on Friday!
  • Remember, the GCF cannot be larger than any of the numbers you started with…..the GCF is the largest number which will go into all of the given numbers evenly (all numbers must be divisible by the GCF).
  • We practiced some word problems together using dry erase boards…..if the word problem asks you to find the GREATEST number of something, you’re going to find the GCF of the given numbers.

Homework:

  1. Quiz Tuesday – It will address prime & composite, prime factorization, factors, and greatest common factors (GCF)
  2. Thick workbook – page 92 – Do the prime numbers only plus #20
