Yesterday in class you made test corrections to your final test of the grading period. There was no homework.

Today in class we went to the media center to do a dewey decimal scavenger hunt with Ms. Harpin and Ms. Goforth. Again there is no homework except for you to have a fun and relaxing winter break ) See you in January, and remember to be prepared for possible schedule changes )

Homework: Study for tomorrow’s test…..some of you did great on today’s review, but a few of you really need to study. Be sure to use the study guide you received in class yesterday and be sure to do some practice problems to help you prepare

Classwork:

• We worked on calculating taxes, tips, and discounts in class today. We went through an example of calculating tax and tip using a Longhorn menu so you knew how to set up the problem. After we went through an example, you were given various menus to choose from, and you had to pick out dinner for four, appetizer, drinks, and dessert was optional. You were to calculate the total before tax, then you were to find the total with 7% tax added on, and finally after you had that total, you were to calculate how much money to leave if you wanted to leave a 15% tip and the new total for meal, tax, and tip all together. You were in groups of 2 or 3 in case you needed help, but everyone in your group should have had a different meal chosen.

• Today in class we continued to use the proportion    % / 100 = is / of to solve more problems. The power point posted on yesterday’s blog will help for today’s assignment if you need assistance.
• We worked various problems from your homework together, and then you had the remainder of class to work on the worksheet…..you had a lot of work time today. Due to how much time we spent on this in class, you will be getting a class work grade from completing both sides of the worksheet.

3. Test – Wednesday, Dec. 17 (If you are going to study for the test and would like to use the on-line textbook, here is a list of the sections which will help you….chapter 4 – lesson 4, chapter 7 – lesson 1, 3, 7, 8, 9, & 10). The test will address converting fractions, decimals, percents, using percents to solve problems, ratios, and proportions. There will be a test review session Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 8:15. Be sure to get a pass from me prior to Tuesday if you want to attend.

Please make sure you keep the bright yellow organizer so you can reference it throughout the year. Remember, the more of the fractions from that sheet you have memorized as decimals, the easier your life will be.
• We discussed your warm-up quiz will be next Tuesday, and you will have your last test of the grading period next Wednesday (fractions, percents, decimals, ratios, and proportions)
• Today’s lesson was dealing with percent problems (keep in mind the proportion    % /100 = is /of….this will help you on tonight’s homework and tomorrow’s assignment
