Classwork:
- First you received back your unit 2 test to see how well you did and where any errors may have occurred. I am giving the option of a re-test Friday morning at 8:00 A.M. If you are interested in doing the re-test, please be in the theater at 8:00 A.M., and I will come down to get you at that time. If you arrive after 8:00 A.M., please let the study hall monitor know you are here for me, and they will let you up to my room.
- We discussed how we are splitting unit 3 into two smaller units: 3A & 3B. The first unit will deal exclusively with fractions (equivalent fractions, simplifying, ordering, comparing, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing). Proper fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers will all be used in this unit.
- We discussed equivalent fractions and simplification, and we did 3 of your homework problems together at the end of class. Some classes had a little more time to continue their homework than others, but it should be a review concept for you to start off the unit.
Homework:
- Thick workbook – page 99 (all problems)
- If you are taking the re-test Friday morning, you MUST let me know before 4:15 P.M. tomorrow so I know exactly how many copies to make. If you haven’t told me you want to take the re-test, please don’t just show up Friday morning. Also, if you are doing the re-test, please, please, please spend some time studying and reviewing so you do better the second time because the second grade stands!

Classwork:
- Today in class we reviewed last night’s homework (GCF & LCM word problems) and went over any questions you had before taking the quiz
- You took the GCF & LCM quiz, I graded them and gave them back to you so you had them to help you study and prepare for Monday’s Unit 2 test
- You then worked on a Unit 2 review sheet
Homework:
- Study for Monday’s Unit 2: Factors & Multiples Test. The concepts on the test will be: divisibility (Chap. 4 – Lesson 1), prime/composite (Chap. 4 – Lesson 1), factors (Chap. 4 – Lesson 2), prime factorization (Chap. 4 – Lesson 2), multiples (Chap. 5 – Lesson 1), greatest common factor (GCF: Chap. 4 – Lesson 3), and least common multiple (LCM: Chap. 5 – Lesson 1).
- If you did the practice sheet, check below to see if your answers were correct:
- 33 is composite because 33 has more than 2 factors
- 1, 3, 11, & 33
- 41 is prime because 41 only has 2 factors
- 1 & 41
- 1 x 48, 2 x 24, 3 x 16, 4 x 12, and 6 x 8
- 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 (2 to the fifth power times 3)
- Find the GCF of 14 & 21, so you can have 7 teams
- There will be 3 boys on each team (21 divided by 7 = 3)
- There will be 2 girls on each team (14 divided by 7 = 2)
- Find the GCF of 24, 36, & 60, so you get 12 baskets
- You will have 2 bottles of shampoo in each basket
- You will have 3 tubes of lotion in each basket
- You will have 5 bars of soap in each basket

In response to the recent floods in Cobb County, McClure Middle School is kicking off a Flood Relief Fundraising program. Beginning this coming Monday, September 28, we will be collecting supplies to replenish Clarkdale Elementary as well as surrounding schools and families affected by the flood. Donations could include any general school supplies (paper, pens/pencils, bookbags) for students AND teachers. As you are shopping or looking through cabinets, think about ANYTHING needed for school. Donated items should be new or gently used. Supplies will be collected September 28th through October 9th. Thank you for all of your support!

Classwork:
- We reviewed your homework from either Monday or Friday depending on which class you are
- We discussed how to tell if a word problem is asking you to do something with GCF of LCM by finding the key words (GREATEST, MOST, LARGEST, etc. mean to find the GCF and LEAST, FEWEST, SMALLEST, LOWEST, etc. mean to find the LCM). Be sure to read the problems and make sure you are answering the questions asked.
- You worked with your group and practiced word problems at 8 stations, and then you checked your own to see how well you did. If you want to review the stations, download the power point GCF LCM word problem stations
- You had the remainder of the class to start working on homework
Homework:
- GCF & LCM word problems worksheet GCFandLCMWordProblemswkst
- GCF & LCM quiz tomorrow
- Unit 2 test Monday (divisibility, prime/composite, factors, prime factorization, multiples, greatest common factor, and least common multiple)….you already have a study guide, and you’ll get a practice review sheet tomorrow in class.

I am still planning on having my before school help session tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. If you need help with any Unit 2: Factors & Multiples concepts, be in the theater at 8:15 A.M., and I will come down to get you. If you arrive after 8:15 A.M., just let the study hall monitor know you are there for my help session, and he/she will let you come up to my room. This will be the unit 2 review session to help you prepare for Friday’s test.
Just like every week, if you understand all of the concepts, let those who truly have questions come to get the extra help needed. We’ll talk about divisibility, prime/composite, factors, prime factorization, greatest common factor (GCF), multiples, and least common multiples (LCM).
Have a good day off of school…..you know you could always spend a little time today reviewing your unit 2 vocabulary and doing a few practice problems to help you prepare for the unit 2 test
