Mrs. V.
Classwork:
- Period 2 – you took the unit 6A test today
- Periods 1, 3, & 4 – You received your take-home quizzes back
- You practiced both customary and metric conversions in class by completing thin workbook pages 77 & 78 or by going through various quiz questions you had
- Common errors on the take-home quiz: (1) trying to do the work in your head….always show the work, (2) label the units on your proportions so you don’t set up one of the ratios upside down, (3) using the wrong conversion factors….study your conversion factors for the customary system and the metric system
Homework:
- Period 2 – NO HOMEWORK
- If you earned 80% or better on the take-home quiz – NO HOMEWORK
- If you earned less than 80% on the take-home quiz, then you are to complete the following problems from pages 303 and 309; PERIODS 1 & 4: EVENS ON PAGES 303 & 309; PERIOD 3 – ODDS ON PAGES 303 & 309.
- Check your homework answers using the following answer key Thick wkbk answers – pg 303 & 309
- Periods 1, 3, & 4: Unit 6A test Monday

Classwork:
- You turned in your take-home quizzes. I hope to have the grades in Pinnacle for you by tomorrow morning.
- You and your partner(s) finished your measurement stations and turned in your group’s answer sheet. The stations count as a class activity grade, and they were a good review for tomorrow’s test.
- I asked if you had any test questions….not many classes asked any questions, so I hope that means you’re ready!
- I told you I would put some conversion word problems on the blog, so if you need them, get them here
Conversion Word Problems
Homework: Study for tomorrow’s test (measuring with a ruler, converting customary and metric units, comparing two different units of measure, a few conversion word problems). If you want to use the online textbook for review, Chapter 9 – Lessons 1, 2, 3, & 4 would be good resources for you.

Mrs. V.
Classwork:
- I went to desk-to-desk and checked the homework assignments from last night while you and your group got started on your first measurement station
- You worked with your group to complete 5 or 6 of the measurement stations in class today, and we will finish the review tomorrow during class and will also check your answers. The stations will count as a class activity grade.
- After you finished the last station of the day, your group should have given me your answer sheets so I could hold on to them until tomorrow.
- You should have taken a take-home quiz…..different class periods had different problems to complete so make sure you are doing the correct problems. You may use your orange sheet if you need to, but I recommend trying the quiz without the orange sheet first because you will not be allowed to use the orange sheet on Friday’s test
Homework:
- Take home quiz: 1st & 3rd period – ODDS; 2nd & 4th period – EVENS
- Unit 6A test – Friday: be sure to know your conversion factors

Mrs. V.
Classwork:
- HW check (capacity conversion wkst.)
- You received yesterday’s quizzes back….be sure you know your conversion factors (the customary conversion factor on the top of your orange sheet & metric conversion factors: 10 mm = 1 cm; 100 cm = 1 m; 1000 mm = 1 m; 1000 m = 1 km…..remember you can replace meters with grams or liters in any of the above conversion factors)
- You made your answer sheet for tomorrow so we can start the stations as soon as you enter the class
- We practiced comparing two quantities with two different units. You can’t compare the two until you have everything in the same units, so you have to convert one of the units to the other. Remember to show work on a separate sheet of paper….we started on a sheet in class, so continue on that same paper. Comparing Units Wkst.
Homework:
- “More or Less” wkst – only the one side (not the coloring side) – YOU DO NOT HAVE TO COMPLETE #17 (we didn’t talk about tablespoons and teaspoons….you should be able to figure out 18 and 19….there are 60 seconds in minute and 60 minutes in an hour)
- Conversions quiz tomorrow
- Unit 6A test – Friday
- Study session tomorrow morning at 8:00 A.M. (15 minutes earlier than usual). If you arrive after 8:00, just let the monitor know you’re here for my study session and he/she will let you come up to my room

Mrs. V.
Classwork:
- First we checked your homework from the weekend (weight conversions wkst) and answered any questions you might have had
- You took the quiz (choosing which units would be most appropriate, using a ruler, and customary conversion factors)
- You had the remainder of the class to work on your homework….capacity conversions. You can either use your orange sheet for the conversion factors or the worksheets state the conversion factors on the left-hand side
Homework:
- Capacity conversion wkst – both sides and be sure to show proportions
- Unit 6A test – Friday, Jan. 29

Mrs. V.
Classwork:
- Homework check (length conversions wkst.)
- You completed and checked the customary and metric graphic organizer question wkst….you should have put it in your “notes” section
- You completed and checked the 9-1 Puzzles, Twisters, and Teasers wkst about choosing the most appropriate unit of measure to use….it should have gone in your “notes” section of your binder
- You worked on your homework the remainder of class. The concept is exactly like last night’s homework except we’re converting oz., lbs., and T in the customary system and mg, cg, g, and kg in the metric system. Remember to set up proportions for all problems. If the calculations are easy enough, you may do them in your head, but you may NOT use a calculator.
Homework:
- Weight Conversion Wkst. – pages 116 – 119: both sides all problems…MUST SHOW ALL PROPORTIONS IN ORDER TO RECEIVE CREDIT
- QUIZ MONDAY: measurement with a ruler, choosing the appropriate units to use, and conversion factors (how many feet in a mile, how many cup in a pint, etc…..study the information on your orange study guide). There will NOT be any converting from one unit to another on the quiz (no calculations)
- Unit 6A: Measurement and Conversions Test – Friday, Jan. 29

Mrs. V.
Classwork:
- We checked last night’s measurement homework (thick wkbk – page 292)
- We reviewed some basic metric and customary information as a class (like which units are used for length, capacity, and weight and common conversion factors)
- We practiced setting up proportions to convert units of length to another unit of length in the same system (metric unit to metric unit OR customary unit to customary unit). I told you I wanted to see your proportions set up for every problem, but if the numbers were easy enough to work with, you could do the calculations in your head (it’s okay to work them out if you need to)
- You completed a couple of conversions on your own, then you had the last 5-10 minutes to work on tonight’s homework.
Homework:
- Length conversion worksheet (pages 112-115) – both sides; many of you who have a band concert tonight used your Renaissance card to cut your assignment in half….if you did that, please make sure you bring back your card tomorrow so I can verify who used their cards
- Unit 6A test – Friday, Jan. 29: measurement, conversions, and choosing appropriate units

Mrs. V.
Classwork:
- We graded last night’s homework (4 measuring with a ruler problems)
- You received an orange study guide, and we filled in the customary conversions on the back. That is the study guide for unit 6A, and you are required to memorize those common conversions.
- We discussed which units would be appropriate to measure various items (distannce between home and school, weight of elephant, etc.) and I showed you many of the customary units (gallon, quart, pint, cup, feet, inch, meter, pound)
- We quickly reviewed using a ruler
- With whatever time remained you could start your homework
Homework:
- Thick workbook page 292 (ignore the directions on the page….measure all of the lines in cm, mm, and inches)
- Unit 6A test – Friday, Jan. 29
